  1. BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to provide coordination, implementation, outreach, and administration of the Tutoring and Mentoring Afterschool Program. The specific duties include program development and participation in staff development. The childcare worker will provide a safe, nurturing, and well-supervised after school program; be the liaison with parents, volunteers, and donors to display the site and the program positively. This position is responsible for the development of a creative learning environment, planning, running all social media networks and preparation of needed materials and supplies. In addition, this personnel is responsible for the collection of program data, and providing reports as requested. The employee's ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in giving participants the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  2. Pick up students from designated locations using a Salvation Army vehicle.
  3. Provide homework assistance to students.
  4. Teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies.
  5. Organize a tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  6. Develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes.
  7. Prepare lesson plans or learning modules for tutoring sessions according to students' needs and goals.
  8. Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, school administrators, or counselors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
  9. Supervise volunteer tutors for the TAM Program.
  10. Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
  11. Maintain records of students' assessment results, progress, feedback, or school performance, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
  12. Provide private instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic or occupational tests.
  13. Responsible for overseeing the nursery, Sunday school program, and helping with the summer day camp.
  14. Communicate students' progress to students, parents, or teachers in written progress reports, in person, by phone, or by email.
  15. Administer, proctor, or score academic or diagnostic assessments.
  16. Ability to create and implement fun, engaging developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of common core, character development, project-based learning, stream, fitness, recreation, and academics/enrichment.
  17. Responsible for immediately reporting and documenting all injuries or incidents utilizing established PTM procedures for notification to parents and The Salvation Army administration.
  18. Implementation and successful delivery of The Salvation Army programs.
  19. Maintain cleanliness in all program areas, including the upkeep of the equipment and facility in an acceptable manner and the seasonal set-up and storage of program equipment and supplies.
  20. Other related duties as assigned.

  1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to speak and write standard English appropriate in a public-school setting and posses strong math skills for grades (K-12).
  2. Must pass criminal background check and complete annual PTM training for working with minors.
  3. First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  4. Possess strong computer skills, have the ability to track data and produce reports.
  5. Possess excellent communication, supervisory, administrative, and fiscal management skills.
  6. At least six months' experience working with youth in a classroom, after school program, or recreation environment.

  1. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  2. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  3. Must be 21 years or older.
  4. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  2. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  3. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  4. Ability to reach overhead.
  5. Ability to operate a telephone.
  1. Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs. for positions that require lifting.
  1. Ability to operate a computer.
  2. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  3. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools such as a PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
