We're actively seeking a talented leader to join our Pacific Life Investments (PLI) Private Assets team in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be on-site or hybrid.

As the Head of Private ABS team, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by developing and implementing a strategy for expanding our exposure to Private Asset Backed Securities and Esoteric Structured Products. You will have expertise in origination, underwriting and management of ABS oriented investments. Our current portfolio of internally managed Private ABS securities is approximately $1.0 billion and you would be expected to grow this exponentially. You will report to the Head of the Private Debt Group. Pacific Life is committed to this asset class and is looking for the right person to lead the team, to expand our presence, and to grow the Private ABS portfolio.

How you will make an impact:

  • Develop and implement a strategy to grow Pacific Life's portfolio of Private (4a2) ABS and Esoteric Structured Products.
  • Expand our relationships with broker/dealers in the ABS markets specializing in off-the-run value add investment opportunities, as well as direct relationships with issuers.
  • Sourcing, underwriting, structuring and presenting to Investment Committee compelling investment opportunities in this space, and appropriately monitoring these investments until maturity.
  • Growing and mentoring a team of analysts in the same skills to develop the future leaders in PLI Private Assets.
  • Collaborating with other team members across PLI to enhance portfolio performance and achieve financial objectives.

The experience you will bring:

  • 15 years of direct experience sourcing, underwriting, structuring and managing a portfolio of ABS and Esoteric Structured Products, as well as demonstrated management experience.
  • Existing relationships that will directly result in new channels for sourcing deal flow.
  • Proven expertise in latest market trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in financial modeling techniques.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, especially as it relates to complex structures.
  • Deep understanding of the nuances related to investing in this asset class on behalf of an insurance company's general account.
  • High energy, positive attitude, collaborative and team-oriented.
  • Composed and decisive under pressure or when challenged.
  • Driven, self-motivated, and intellectually inquisitive.
  • Creative, organized, responsive, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to build constructive and effective relationships.

What will make you stand out:

  • Demonstrated and proven leadership experience executing an investment strategy focused on ABS at a large-scale Insurance Company or Asset Manager
  • Bachelor's Degree; Advanced degree and CFA desirable

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$214,020.00 - $261,580.00
