Job Description

Pharmacy Residents in PGY1 residency programs are provided the opportunity to accelerate their growth beyond entry-level professional competence in patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services, and to further the development of leadership skills that can be applied in any position and in any practice setting. PGY1 residents acquire substantial knowledge required for skillful problem solving, refine their problem-solving strategies, strengthen their professional values and attitudes, and advance the growth of their clinical judgment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities for each resident will differ depending on the demands on the Pharmacy as a whole. However, certain aspects of the resident's responsibilities may include:

  • Become competent in management of the pharmacy distribution system as well as conducting staff pharmacist operational and clinical responsibilities in order to work independently to provide staff coverage in any position within the Pharmacy as needed.

  • Participate in committee activities.

  • Participate in IRB investigational drug study responsibilities of a pharmacist.

  • Actively participate and promote the clinical pharmacy activities of the Pharmacy. This may be done by involvement in protocol management, direct interaction with physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers, and development of new programs as dictated by the Director of Pharmacy and Clinical Manager. The resident is expected to develop the ability and confidence to independently practice in all clinical settings in the hospital.

  • Enhance communication and drug information provision provided by the Pharmacy to healthcare workers and patients.

  • Actively participate in the education of pharmacy students.

  • Develop interpersonal communication skills and become an effective member of a healthcare team approach to patient care.

  • Complete a project promoting pharmacy practice.

  • Work in concert with the Residency Site Director and Coordinator to enhance the residency experience for future resident

Qualifications

Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree from an ACPE accredited pharmacy.

Competent in all areas of clinical pharmacology, infectious diseases, and pharmacokinetics prior to entering the program

Must provide letters of recommendation from clinical faculty, preceptors, and/or former employers

Must participate in aninterview panel with residency leaders and mentors

Must be committed to complete the 12-month duration of the program

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Must be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of California

Must pass California State Board examination within three months of start of residency

Salary Range:

$31.00 - $31.00 USD Hourly
