The Forest Ecohydrology & Watershed Systems (FEWS) Lab at University of California Merced is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in disturbance hydrology. The position will focus on synthesis and applying integrated hydrologic modeling to analyze the impact of climate and other disturbances on watershed processes in forested areas with a focus on developing nature-based climate solutions. A successful candidate will carry out a regional synthesis to document impacts on water and ecosystem, design land management scenarios and evaluate their impacts/tradeoffs using measurement and numerical modeling, and summarize findings in the form of scientific reports and peer-reviewed publications. The position will be based at UC Merced but some travel and fieldwork in remote locations may be necessary.
The postdoctoral scholar is expected to stay abreast of recent publications in the field, carry out research independently, implement and develop research ideas and write research articles. Additional duties include mentoring students within the FEWS lab and facilitating interactions with students, presenting research at national and international meetings.
Ph.D. in hydrology, water resources engineering or closely related field. The candidate must have hydrologic modeling experience as well as ability to write and understand codes in Python, MATLAB, and R. Prior experience in hydrologic modeling (preferably using RHESSys, SWAT, LPJ-GUESS) is also required.
* Experience with fieldwork is desirable.
* Ability to work independently with guidance from principal investigator and collaborators.
* Excellent written communication skills; good organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment and interact with a broad range of colleagues.
