What we are looking for

SCS Engineers, a nationwide leader in hazardous waste and solid waste engineering, is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking Entry-Level Scientist or Engineer to join our Santa Maria or Bakersfield team. The ideal candidates have a desire to make a positive impact on the environment by working on CEQA, NEPA, and other Environmental service projects. They will love doing research and technical writing, but also enjoy rolling up their sleeves and doing field work. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, self-motivated, eager to learn, embrace teamwork, and be driven by a desire to grow and develop professionally. How you can make an impact

  • Record data during field work, which could include, but is not limited to: soil characteristics, lithology, groundwater or surface water data, photographs, or summaries of visual observations through photograph and written field logs in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee biological and cultural field monitoring for construction projects throughout the Central Coast and Central Valley.
  • Utilize ArcGIS Field Maps or equivalent software to collect and review data while working in the field.
  • Prepare basic ArcGIS Site Maps.
  • Prepare permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and responses with supporting documentation as requested.
  • Assist in geologic sub-surface analysis and interpretation.
  • Prepare environmental assessment/ monitoring reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, sketches and/or figures.
  • Collect samples from hazardous and non-hazardous sites, including: soil, air, surface water, and groundwater.
  • Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations to ensure compliance with construction documents.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work product (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients as directed.
  • Prepare reports such as: Air Monitoring Reports, odor sampling reports, Soil Management Plan, Dust Control Plan, environmental site assessment, emission, groundwater, and compliance reporting.
  • Prepare calculations for reports and in support of design documents, including applicable modeling, as requested.
  • Prepare short form site specific health and safety plans and assist in the preparation of long form site specific health and safety plans as requested.
  • Participate in health and safety training as required.
  • Review technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Physical Sciences preferred.
  • Prior fieldwork is not required but preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License with a driving record in good standing required.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification not required but preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • High attention to detail.
  • Intermediate health and safety knowledge.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic GIS knowledge.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read directions for field testing equipment.
  • Understanding of scientific concepts including physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools such as hammer, screwdriver.???????

The pay range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000/year depending on experience with additional bonuses and our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
