Hiring/Budgeted Hourly Range: $22.46 - $26.82/hr.

Full Hourly Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $22.46 - $30.84/hr. The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $22.46 - $26.82/hr.

Work Location: Biology Research Lab - 1101A

Working Days and Hours: M- F; 7:00am - 4:00pm

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Responsible for the Shipping/Receiving Division of the Biological Sciences Storeroom. This involves the receipt, documentation, and delivery of all items received for Biological Sciences; Ecology/Evolution/Marine Biology; Molecular/Cellular/Developmental Biology; as well as limited services for other departments, e.g., NRI, MSI, and Bren School.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to read, write, perform mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, and two years of experience in stores work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in receipt, documentation, and delivery of equipment in a biological field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Able to maintain organization and orientation to detail.
  • Possess excellent customer service, and customer relation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UC policies.
  • Experience communicating with academic faculty and personnel.
  • Knowledge of University purchasing procedures and equipment management.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Receiving - 40%: Is responsible for receipt, storage, and disbursement of all deliveries to the department which total more than 5,500 shipments/year. Inspects Items received must be inspected, comparison made between purchase documents and packing slips and recorded. In cases of damage or discrepancies, is responsible for notifying the vendor and resolving the issue.

Shipping - 25%: Responsible for packaging and shipping of more than 1,500 shipments annually to research and/or educational institutions and vendors. Shipments include highly perishable biochemicals, living material, pathogenic material (both human and animal), as well as manuscripts and delicate research equipment. Requires high-level of expertise of shipping methods, regulations, and policies on a national and worldwide basis.

Departmental Key Control / Dry Ice - 20%: Issues keys for the approximately 300 offices and work areas in the department. Verifies authorization, maintaining key records, works with the campus lock shop coordinating lock changes and orders appropriate quantities of keys. Manages the departments dry ice storage - keeping appropriate levels at all times to meet the departmental research and instructional needs.

Customer Service - 10%: Works the front counter to distribute goods for research labs working with staff, students, faculty, and researchers.

Purchasing Manager Back-Up - 5%: Functions as the Procurement Manager in their absence. Uses knowledge of University purchasing policies, procedures, and vendor agreements. Places orders by telephone or Gateway portal. Advises faculty and staff of appropriate vendors, current pricing, etc.
