Pay

$19.35 - $23.06 / hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule

1st Shift (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Approximately 15-20 hours per week during the school year, and up to 40 hours during school breaks and summer months. Candidates must live within commuting distance to our Corporate Offices in Collegedale, TN.

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking an Environmental Sciences Internto join our Corporate Engineering team. Students selected for this position will receive guidance from an experienced engineer as they learn the dynamics of the environmental compliance function from the inside of a leading snack-food manufacturer.

  • Learn from the best as you assist our Corporate Engineering Group in all phases of environmental review and compliance
  • Collect, verify, and analyze field data, validate systems performance and other project data both from the field and from business systems software
  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and document tests for baseline analysis or validating potential system issues, or identify potential improvements
  • Work with operations and maintenance on identifying, defining gaps or opportunities in our current environmental compliance plans
  • Assist in the formation of potential projects through research, sourcing, data analysis, project planning, presentation, and validation activities
  • Work with internal talent to design, fabricate, implement, and refine devices that aide in furthering environmental compliance or sustainability
  • Work with external consultants and contractors to advance compliance and sustainability
  • Assure compliance with existing permit conditions for storm water, air, etc.
  • Provide weekly updates to the management team on project status and schedule progress/completion
  • Maintain project diary for project record keeping
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment/full completion of at least 2 full academic years of a BS degree program in Environmental Sciences or Biology, ORcompletionof 2 years of full-time environmental or Biology program by May 2024, along with a verifiable acceptance into an accredited 4 year environmental program for fall of 2024
  • Academic eligibility to attend classes in the fall
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple project activities
  • Willingness to travel to other McKee facilities, vendor locations, and suppliers as required
  • High level of initiative, assertiveness and self-direction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative and fast-paced project team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with:
    • Spill Prevention, Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC) programs
    • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
    • Clean Air Act (EPA)
    • Environmental permitting and compliance
  • Prior technical work experience
  • Experience/exposure dealing with regulatory agencies / personnel
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75
