Position Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree [BA/BS] in Psychology/Social Services/Counseling with recent experience in clinical practice. Academic and clinical background and experience, as related to this clinical area, shall be evaluated on an individual basis.

• Current certification as a Alcohol and/or Drug Counselor with recent experience in clinical practice. Certification must be by a state certifying body or through a recognized professional chemical dependency counselors organization such as the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC).

• Documentation and evidence of acquiring and utilizing current knowledge and experience in the profession with emphasis on alcoholism and other drug addictions.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of chemical dependency with a sound knowledge of 12 Step recovery.

• Evidence of good physical and emotional health.

• Ability to work effectively with others with demonstrated leadership qualities.

• Integrity, resourcefulness, initiative and evidence of self-improvement.

• Professional judgment and integrity in holding in confidence all information pertaining to patients, families, and co-workers.

• Ability to support and apply the philosophy and goals of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Program.

• No evidence of existing chemical dependency.

• If chemically dependent, shall be free of and have had at least four years free of any chemical abuse or dependency.

• Willingness to comply with The Salvation Army Counselor Code of Ethics as evidenced by signed agreements.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Extensive networking with community resources for developing additional services for program aspects and establishing a well balanced referral base through referral development.

2. Develop and maintain written policies and procedures, referral source and community resource directories, protocol in all areas of counselor functions, and letters of agreement for services provided by external providers.

3. Supervision of Intake Office, development and maintenance of intake policies and procedures and assist with screening.

4. Assignment of beneficiaries to counselors and interns.

5. Professional and administrative supervision of counseling staff and administrative coordination of medical services and clerical support staff in order to insure program integrity as well as case management through proper utilization of professional services.

6. Supervision, development and maintenance of policies and procedures for re-entry services and transitional living.


7. Encouragement of professional staff development via institution of relevant in-service training as well as referral of staff to appropriate community programs, projects, advisory boards, and educational opportunities.

8. Development and implementation of special programs, projects, and services as well as modification or deletion of existing projects, programs, and services as approved and directed by the Administrator.

9. Preparation and maintenance of reports and records required by policy and administration. Supervision of such recording and reporting by staff.

10. Work closely with members of the administrative staff and residence supervisors, assuring that the beneficiary's needs are being met as to rehabilitation interpretation, work therapy assignment, and spiritual guidance.

12. Assist staff with resolution of problems concerning case management and implement effective team building methods.

13. Ensure rehabilitation staff are performing duties in accordance to ARC standards and within the ethical standards expected of human service professionals.

14. Develop tracking methods and maintain statistics on center trends and program effectiveness.

15. Carry and maintain appropriate caseload including group facilitation and active participation in program activities.

16. Will supervise and train all placements from colleges and universities for internships.
