Specific Responsibilities: The Sr. Project Engineer will be responsible for the management of construction / facilities projects in Foster City & Palo Alto. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right individual to lead high profile projects in a growing and dynamic group.



In this role the successful candidate will:



* Manage a wide range of projects from small renovations to construction of new buildings.
* Provide engineering support to ongoing activities.
* Serve as the company’s primary contact for all project stakeholders (end users, architects, engineers, contractors, government agencies, etc).
* Develop RFPs, solicit and obtain bids from contractors and vendors.
* Issue contracts and purchase orders after appropriate approvals.
* Develop project cost estimates.
* Secure properly executed contract and purchase order agreements, insurance certificates, bonds and other documents as required to protect the interests of the Corp
* Ensure that the projects are constructed in accordance with the contract requirements and specs within quality control parameters and the approved budget.
* Prepare, review and negotiate change orders. Issue change orders to contractors and others and prepare revisions to the project budget.
* Keep Facilities management fully informed in a timely manner with regard to any and all potential problems on a project.
* Maintain good working relationship with Architects, Engineers, Contractors, suppliers, municipal authorities, and Company personnel.
* Actively participate in project, coordination, contractor and scheduling meetings.
* Must work closely with EH&S to monitor and provide for a safe work environment for all projects.



Specific Skills and Requirements:


* Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an accredited construction-related curriculum (BSCM, BSAE, etc).
* Project Management and/or Pharmaceutical Engineering background required.
* Minimum of 5 to 8 years exp. as PM or Assistant PM.
* Demonstrated ability to perform well in these functional areas: estimating, scheduling, budgeting/cost control, field supervision, financial reporting, client relationship, interpersonal skills, safety/insurance, written and oral communication skills, computer skills.
* Ability to manage department personnel and associates required.



The preferred candidate should also have the following background:



* Ability to construct the project in accordance with the plans, specifications, and the best standards of the trade.
* Experience recognizing design or other changes that will enhance the quality of the project, reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve the scheduled completion, or decrease construction costs.
* Ability to construct the project in conformance with the established project plan and organize the work for optimum utilization of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
* Ability to successfully build technically challenging projects while maintaining a working relationship with owners, architects, vendors, governing authorities and subcontractors.
* Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
* Assist with conceptual estimating and scheduling, both prior to bid and during design phase.
* Ensure that project closeout is completed promptly.

Essential Duties and Job Functions: Responsible for performing the validation of equipment, utility systems, facilities, processes and/or automation systems. Designs and develops manufacturing processes for drug products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing. Establishes operating specifications and improves manufacturing techniques. Independently resolve a wide variety of issues of complex scope. Participates and may lead cross-functional project teams. Coordinates contract personnel through completion of assignments. Responsible for project design, project management and financial management of facility and equipment projects. Implements and integrates equipment and systems with minimum interruption to operations. Designs mechanical systems and water process systems. Performs installation/operational qualification portions of pharmaceutical projects. Independently resolve a wide variety of issues of complex scope. Independently manages assigned projects through completion. Coordinates contract personnel through completion of assignments. Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards. Ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Typically requires a BA or BS degree and minimum 8 years of relevant experience in related field. A MA/MBA degree can be substituted for 2 years of relevant experience. Must be able develop solutions to a wide range of moderately complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.
