| The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is recruiting Tax Examiners to work either a seasonal, term or temporary appointment. Positions are available in the Wage & Investment Business Unit of the IRS. This position is in an office setting in Fresno, CA. The anticipated start date for these positions is between January and April 2010. If filled as a career conditional appointment with a seasonal work schedule, work is performed on an annually recurring basis from two to six months as determined by workload and budget. When the work is completed, you will be placed in nonwork/nonpay status and recalled when the work resumes. If the position filled is expected to last more than one (1) year but not more than four (4) years, then the appointment will be a Term appointment. A Term appointment is a non-status, non-permanent appointment to a position in the competitive service. If the position to be filled is for less than one(1) year, (such as three (3) months) that applicant is appointed to a Temporary appointment. Upon completion of the workload, the temporary appointment may be terminated. The IRS may use temporary appointing authority to fill hundreds of positions occuring between February and March 2010 workload peak season. TYPES OF APPOINTMENTS The following types of appointments and work schedules may be made from this announcement: CAREER CONDITIONAL - a permanent (non-temporary) initial appointment to a competitive service position leading to career status after three years of substantially continuous service with the federal government. This appointment may be used in combination with the following work schedules: seasonal full-time, seasonal part-time or seasonal intermittent (see work schedule definitions under Types of Work Schedules). TEMPORARY - an appointment to a position limited to one year or less. Appointment may be extended an additional year. This appointment may be used in combination with the following work schedules: full-time, part-time or intermittent (see work schedule definitions under Types of Work Schedules). TERM - a term appointment is a non-status appointment to a position in the competitive service for a specific period of more than one year but not more than four years. TYPES OF WORK SCHEDULES SEASONAL - annually recurring periods of employment totaling less than 12 months per calendar year. Seasonal positions may have either full time, part time, or intermittent work schedules. FULL-TIME SEASONAL - a schedule that requires an employee to work less than 12 months each year on an annually recurring basis. FULL TIME - work is performed up to 40 hours per week on a regularly scheduled tour of duty. PART TIME - 16-32 hours per week. INTERMITTENT - a schedule that requires an employee to work an irregular number of hours and days for which there is no pre-arranged scheduled tour of duty. INTERMITTENT SEASONAL - a schedule that requires an employee to work less than 12 months per year on an annually recurring basis and that requires an employee to work an irregular number of hours and days for which there is no pre-scheduled tour of duty. MIXED TOUR OF DUTY - combining periods of full-time, part-time, and intermittent tours of duty during the year. | As a Tax Examiner, you will: -Receive and analyze taxpayer inquiries, requests for adjustment action, and other input documents to determine nature of problem. -Research microfilm records, encoder books, and other sources for pertinent data. Contacts taxpayers and/or their representatives to obtain necessary information. -Perform the full range of corrections to taxpayer accounts, adjust accounts, input credit transfers, recomputed penalty and interest, and initiates manual refunds. -Analyze and make determinations whether to suspend collection for a period of time on balance due notices when corrective action may be necessary. -Provide advice on tax regulations. -Analyze and determine taxpayer's financial condition by an investigation of financial statements. -Prepare tax adjustment documents, payment tracer documents, payment- posting vouchers, and posts payments received. -Prepare notices of Lien, Notices of Levy, Summons, Release of Levy. -Initiate and send correspondence to taxpayers and/or third parties, independently composing items of a repetitive nature. | |
