Specific Responsibilities: Position: Manager Total Rewards

The Manager Total Rewards is responsible for managing the design and implementation of base salary, variable pay, and long-term incentive programs etc. This individual will specifically support the North America Research & Development group as well as also work on cross-functional and international compensation projects and programs. The role will report to the Director Total Rewards based in Foster City.

Specific Duties Include:
? Manage vendors on compensation salary surveys for multiple North American locations and maintain up-to-date market data.
? Work with the HR team for Research & Development to evaluate the base salary, bonus, recognition and equity programs for employees in this client group. Based on best practice information, recommend changes to the current compensation processes, procedures, and systems.
? Provide guidance and support to Research & Development Management and HR in regular compensation programs such as annual salary and bonus review, stock program, recognition program etc.
? Work with Finance and other departments on cost analyses for various compensation programs and present findings and recommendations to senior leaders.
? Periodically conduct analysis and review of various worldwide compensation programs and propose improvements to senior leaders.
? Conduct major job leveling and career path mapping projects for Research & Development functions worldwide.
? Gilead Rewards Team members each have responsibility for one or more worldwide compensation programs and processes and are expected to maintain and propose improvements to those they own. Allocation of responsibility is based on the skills, experience and development objectives of each Rewards Team member.

Skills Required:
? Demonstrated compensation background in the following areas: base salary, variable pay and performance management, equity programs, job evaluation, data analysis, research and cost modeling. Experience in equity compensation would be an advantage.
? A self-reliant achiever with ability to work independently and set and adjust priorities.
? Very strong project management and consultative skills required in order to be able to lead Reward projects with worldwide scope.
? Team player who can easily handle shifting priorities and multi-tasking in a deadline oriented environment.
? Ability to meet independently with senior leaders and present to them with confidence, impact and influence.
? Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills.

Professional Background Required:
* Typically requires a BA/BS degree, preferably with an emphasis in HR or Business, and a minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the HR field.
* Biopharmaceutical or Pharmaceutical experience preferred.
* CCP and/or W@W certification or course completion desired.

Essential Duties and Job Functions: Manages a range of human resources services, focusing on serving an internal client group. Directs the planning, development, implementation, administration and budgeting for a portion of a large client group, or the entire HR function of a small-sized unit of a specific geographic area. Implements programs in accordance with company-wide human resources policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, the research and analysis of a variety of employee and management issues. Advises managers and employees on HR policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions consistent with HR strategic direction. Manages training needs analysis and training solutions to build capability within the assigned business unit. Develops and conducts presentations to employees and managers on a variety of HR subjects. Participates as a site/group lead on global HR initiatives, or may lead smaller-scale, local HR projects. This position may manage HR Assistants or other HR support staff. While not necessarily the subject matter expert in each HR specialty area, must be able to discuss the fundamental issues of the HR functional areas (training, compensation, benefits, etc.) with management. Working with their manager, influences line-managers to make changes in organizational structure or processes. Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Typically requires a BA/BS degree, preferably with an emphasis in HR or Business, and a minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the HR field. An MA/MS degree can be substituted for 2 years of related experience. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Must possess in-depth influencing skills. Requires an in depth knowledge and understanding of Human Resources legislation/employment law, principles, policies, and procedures. May require experience and ability to manage staff. Must be able to exercise judgment and independently determine and take appropriate action within defined HR policies and procedures. Work is performed with minimal direction. Exercises some latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment.
