| Specific Responsibilities: | The Associate Director of Security is the senior security official for Gilead Sciences, charged with the responsibility for the protection of personnel, physical assets and the protection of information and intellectual property of the corporation. The Associate Director of Security is responsible for evaluating threats against the corporation’s assets and personnel and will develop programs and procedures to mitigate those threats. |
| Essential Duties and Job Functions: | The Associate Director of Security will understand the business strategies and goals of the corporation and develop supporting strategies and goals; that align with and support the business, for an enterprise-wide security plan that defines the program scope, resources and funding requirements and provides the necessary security requirements for the operations and business needs of the company. The Associate Director of Security manages the enterprise Security function in such a way as to assure that goals and objectives are met. The Associate Director of Security maintains a professional presence in the security community to the benefit of the corporation and keeps corporate officers advised of security affairs on an on-going basis. The Associate Director of Security manages the administrative supervision of the security organization. Provides protection for personnel and company property. May arrange for extra protection for key employees and employees on assignment. Develops implements and maintains security procedures to meet required codes and regulations. Analyzes loss control and security related incident reports. Prepares and maintains all required security procedures and manuals. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel, systems and services to ensure the efficient operation of the security function. Interfaces with law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels. 1. Physical Security -Develop implementation and oversight responsibility for security programs. Periodically review programs to assure effectiveness, revise as necessary. -Develop standards of performance/ expectations for security supplier / man guarding programs in terms of the degree to which expectations are met, quality of personnel, supervision, costs, etc. -Develop and maintain guidance and specifications for best practices electronic security systems. Keep abreast of innovations in developing technology. -Assist with the development of emergency plans that will ensure an orderly response to a variety of adverse/crises events, e.g. the threat of violence in the workplace, product tampering, threat to company assets , etc. 25% 2. Investigations -Direct and conduct investigations into internal and external business issues and problems with emphasis on those that pose the greatest threat to the company’s operations, reputation, profitability and business processes. -Coordinate investigations appropriately with internal partners such as the General Council, Human Resources, Information Technology, management and others including Law Enforcement Agencies as required. Take guidance from the General Council on the Legal issues of sensitive investigations. 15% 3. Incident Management and Planning -Implement an Incident Management reporting system that will provide pertinent data as a basis for preventative programs. -Maintain close liaison with the Executive Committee, Senior Management and Internal Audit to ensure a timely exchange of information regarding significant incidents and losses. -Work with internal business partners to develop prevention programs to reduce the probability of significant incidents and losses. 15% 4. Information Security -Develop, implement and direct an Information Security program to protect critical information, in all of its forms and across all information media, which includes awareness programs, reviews and audits. Coordinate with Information Technology as it related to the technical aspects of the computing environment at Gilead. -Develop and implement an enterprise-wide security awareness program that addresses individual and management security responsibilities and provides guidance on how to fulfill those responsibilities. 15% 5. Regulatory Compliance -Work with internal partners to develop and maintain an audit and investigative program that ensures compliance with the security provisions of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Prescription Drug Marketing Act (PDMA) and security-applicable Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR). -Maintain a working relationship with the FDA Office of Criminal Investigations Division as well as Local, National and International Law Enforcement agencies either directly, or through a network of industry consultants. 10% 6. Corporate Security Policies -Develop, coordinate and obtain concurrence from internal partners as appropriate (Legal and Human Resources as an example), and promulgate Corporate Security Policies throughout Gilead. -Provide Gilead with guidelines and counsel to ensure that policies are implemented in accordance with their intent. 10% 7. Personnel Security and Executive Protection -Conduct an initial and ongoing threat assessment of domestic and international operations relative to the corporation, our employees and key executives. -Develop and implement a personnel safeguard program that focuses on security awareness, country risk profiles/close protection in high risk environments as needed and provides for residential security consulting support upon request of Executive Committee members. -Provide special security arrangements for a variety of events, which may involve a high concentration of the Executive Committee or prominent public figures, coordinate with third party protective details as necessary. 5% 8. Miscellaneous -Establish and maintain a criminal and critic intelligence function encompassing information collection, risk assessment, analysis and dissemination. -Establish and maintain appropriate relationships/liaison with Local, National and International Law Enforcement and intelligence agencies or organizations to ensure appropriate interaction on matters of significance. -Maintain awareness and technical understanding of best-practice developments in the security discipline. 5% |
| Knowledge, Experience and Skills: | Should have Operational experience in managing and operating crisis management centers and should posses a wide-range of experience in addressing multiple tasks in stressful, fast-paced, and/or rapidly changing situations. Public speaking experience before news media, and civic/community organizations is preferred. Excellent oral communication, written, and interpersonal skills are required. An extensive liaison contact with law enforcement agencies and corporate security managers is preferred. Experience in developing operating procedures to protect company against product counterfeiting and developing security measures to protect products is desired. |
