| The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is recruiting Clerks for career conditional, TERM, or temporary appointments with full time, part time, seasonal, or intermittent work schedules for the following occupations: Miscellaneous Clerk GS-0303-02/03/04 Mail and File Clerk GS-0305-02/03/04 Financial Clerk GS-0503-02/03/04 Cash Processing Clerk GS-0530-02/03/04 Positions are available in the Wage & Investment Business Unit of the IRS. These positions are in an office setting in Fresno Ca. The anticipated start date is anytime after February 2010 through April 2010. If filled as a career conditional appointment with a seasonal work schedule, work is performed on an annually recurring basis anywhere between 2 and 6 months as determined by workload and budget. When the work is completed, you will be placed in non work/non pay status and recalled when the work resumes. If the position to be filled is expected to last more than one (1) year but not more than four (4) years, then the appointment will be a Term appointment. A Term appointment is a non-status, non-permanent appointment to a position in the competitive service. If the position to be filled is for less than one (1) year, (such as one (1) month) that applicant is appointed to a Temporary appointment. Upon completion of the workload, the temporary appointment is terminated. The IRS may use temporary appointing authority to fill positions during the February through March 2010 workload peak season. TYPES OF APPOINTMENTS The following types of appointments and work schedules may be made from this announcement: CAREER CONDITIONAL - a permanent (non-temporary) initial appointment to a competitive service position leading to career status after three years of substantially continuous service with the federal government. This appointment may be used in combination with the following work schedules: seasonal full-time, seasonal part-time or seasonal intermittent (see work schedule definitions under Types of Work Schedules). TEMPORARY - an appointment to a position limited to one year or less. Appointment may be extended an additional year. This appointment may be used in combination with the following work schedules: full-time, part-time or intermittent (see work schedule definitions under Types of Work Schedules). TERM - a term appointment is a non-status appointment to a position in the competitive service for a specific period of more than one year but not more than four years. TYPES OF WORK SCHEDULES SEASONAL - annually recurring periods of employment totaling less than 12 months per calendar year. Seasonal positions may have either full time, part time, or intermittent work schedules. FULL-TIME SEASONAL - a schedule that requires an employee to work less than 12 months each year on an annually recurring basis. FULL TIME - work is performed up to 40 hours per week on a regularly scheduled tour of duty. PART TIME - 16-32 hours per week. INTERMITTENT - a schedule that requires an employee to work an irregular number of hours and days for which there is no pre-arranged scheduled tour of duty. INTERMITTENT SEASONAL - a schedule that requires an employee to work less than 12 months per year on an annually recurring basis and that requires an employee to work an irregular number of hours and days for which there is no pre-scheduled tour of duty. MIXED TOUR OF DUTY - combining periods of full-time, part-time, and intermittent tours of duty during the year. | Clerks work in various functional areas within the IRS; Therefore, your specific duties may vary according to assignments. As a Clerk your duties may include but are not limited to: -Perform various clerical duties such as maintaining records, extracting, sorting, numbering, batching, and filing tax returns and related correspondence. -Receive, open, sort and distribute both incoming and outgoing mail. -Screen documents, forms, and letters addressed or routed to various offices. -Review and process outgoing mail. Maintain appropriate records and/or logs for tracking and reconciliation purposes. -Conduct searches and other follow up action on delayed shipments. -Examine file materials to identify primary subject matter and assign proper classification. -Locate and withdraw file material or information from records to meet the needs of users. -Periodically review filed material in the light of ongoing programs or special projects. -Perform other duties as assigned. | |
