Overview:

Henkels & McCoy, Inc., one of the largest privately held international utility contracting firms, with offices in 80 cities and celebrating 85 years of operating with a reputation as one of the most reliable and innovative firms in engineering and construction, is currently seeking a Electrical Program Writer who will be responsible for pre-planning, writing, submitting, and coordinating all switching requests, outages or line equipment requests (hold tags / non-reclose settings) as needed for Power Distribution crews. The Programmer is responsible for the integrity of the Utility Electrical Distribution System and the safety of the Company employees and the public. The Electrical Programmer is an essential part of the work flow, his/her duties are extremely important for the Company. All work in the field relies on the planning and completion of the Programmer’s duties prior to the start of work.



Major Job Elements:
  • Communicate and coordinate with customers, client, and internal stakeholders. This includes daily interaction with the Switching Center and Contract Administrators.
  • Utilize customer specific software and programs to interpret circuit maps and develop electrical switching programs.
  • Field check and verify all equipment operational status to ensure field switching can be completed as written.
  • Help client engineering team re-design in-progress jobs when necessary.
  • Ensure all Line Equipment Requests (hold tags / non-reclose settings) are authorized in a timely manner.
  • Lead and coordinate large outages and/or high complexity scopes of work.
  • Coordinate and provide leadership with subcontractors and regulatory agencies as necessary to support construction crews. This includes traffic control, helicopter, CALTRANS, CHP etc.
  • Assist General Foremen with job planning, scheduling outages and one calls.
  • Actively participate in customer, client, staff and safety meetings.

  • Qualifications:
    • Requires Electrical Engineering degree or Journeyman Lineman status with at least 5 years of directly related field experience.
    • Requires the ability to read and interpret distribution circuit maps.
    • Requires demonstrable expertise in electrical line construction, both overhead and underground.
    • Have sound judgment and the ability to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Ability to lead, direct and perform a variety of tasks.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including written, oral, and graphic presentation experience.
    • Ability to express complex concepts effectively, both written and verbal, to diverse groups of people ensuring that communication is accurately understood by all parties.
    • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
    • Ability to build teams and generate a spirit of cooperation.
    • Extensive experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Works to accomplish objectives without appreciable direction.
