Job/Internship Description

Carpenter's Latrobe Specialty Metals operations, based in Latrobe, Pa., manufacture high-performance specialty alloys serving aerospace, energy and other demanding markets. Carpenter acquired Latrobe in 2012 to increase capacity to meet strong customer demand and to broaden the company's product mix. Latrobe employs more than 1,000 dedicated production, maintenance and salaried staff and continues a century-long legacy of leadership in metals technology. Latrobe is part of the corporation's Specialty Alloys Operations division.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Complete items found during safety observations and from the ATS items, such as machine guarding and ergonomic issues.
  • OP Module- Standardize Work- process improvements
  • Collect and analysis data on the 54" Savage saw to improve cutting performance
  • Assist in Installing new rack system in the IUT tank
  • Assist in Installing Bar Washer
  • Assist rebuild Centerless grinders in the cold mill
  • Increase the size capacity of #6 Tac Tic to (5-7-inch range)
  • Install jib crane for #1 Medart to change bullets
  • Complete studies on departments to find additional improvement projects
  • Convert the #1 Dozer from an electric to hydraulic drive
  • Assist with engineering knowledge for break downs
  • Write budgets, ROIs, and Capital requests for new projects

REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified students must be currently enrolled in a college degree program and have a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be considered
  • Major in Mechanical Engineering and has completed at least one full year of academic study in the field
  • Desire to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Self-driven in order to achieve results
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
