Job Description

Mechanics Bank is looking for a Sr. Trust Assistant to sit in either our San Luis Obispo or Bakersfield locations. In this role you'll support the Trust Officers' administration of investment management agency, custody, and person trust accounts. Enters and updates records, arranges for the evaluation, transfer, and protection of assets, and coordinates administrative functions with internal and external sources. Independently administers agency and custody accounts, and may administers non-discretionary simple trusts.

What you will do:

  • Executes instructions from Trust Officers
  • Performs routine tasks independently including making disbursements (e.g., wiring funds, paying bills), processing receipt of funds, and establishing, maintaining, and closing accounts
  • Maintains trust account records by obtaining and updating account inventory values, account assets, and account relationship information
  • Monitors substantive account activity issues (e.g., audits) ensuring compliance with established procedures, rules and regulations. Proactively assists clients with account needs and communicates with clients, beneficiaries, portfolio managers, attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals regarding account issues
  • Performs periodic account reviews independently for all assigned accounts
  • Administers non-discretionary simple trusts, investment management agency accounts, and custody accounts assigned
  • May provide support for the Trust Administrative Committee (TAC) by compiling the agenda, taking and maintain the minutes, and preparing reports

Who you are:

  • Basic knowledge of personal trust concepts and requirements
  • Basic knowledge of tax reporting requirements
  • Ability to analyze and interpret trust documents, wills contracts, policies and procedures, and regulatory basic requirements
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Skill in attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to clearly articulate issues, problems, solutions, concerns, and other information in oral and written communication
  • Basic skills applied in mathematical formulas
  • Skill in word processing and spreadsheets
  • Ability to apply specialized software to accomplish assigned tasks
  • May be required to secure a Notary License
  • Trust Assistant or equivalent experience
  • Paralegal experience preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred
