Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an entry- to mid-level Hydrogeologist or Engineer to join our Private Sector Enterprise. The primary responsibility for this position is to conduct quantitative hydrogeologic analysis and groundwater modeling as a part of Brown and Caldwell's nationally recognized team of groundwater modelers and hydrogeologists. This includes geospatial data analysis to develop conceptual and numerical models of groundwater flow systems and automating workflows for the creation of inputs to and evaluation of outputs from groundwater models. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of hydrogeology and will work on water resource management, environmental remediation, and mine permitting and reclamation projects located throughout the United States.

Detailed Description:

  • Conduct groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and water balance modeling support for mining, water resources, and environmental site remediation projects.
  • Develop scientifically sound conceptual site models of complex hydrogeologic settings in support of detailed site investigations and numerical modeling efforts.
  • Provide in-depth data evaluation including statistical, geostatistical, data visualization and forensic techniques in support of technical report writing and presentations to clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Scope, plan, and support hydrogeology field investigations including high resolution methods where appropriate.
  • Execute diverse projects in a manner that exceeds client expectations in terms of technical work product, deadlines, and budgets.
  • Work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project objectives.

Boise, Denver, Sacramento, Walnut Creek, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, Davis, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Orlando, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Houston, Phoenix, Carson City, and Reno are the preferred offices for this position, but other locations will be considered

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field including formal training in quantitative hydrogeology and numerical groundwater modeling.
  • 1 - 10 years of experience in application of quantitative techniques, including groundwater flow and transport modeling, and hydrologic data organization and analysis.
  • Experience implementing technical tasks on groundwater modeling projects that may include, but are not limited to, legacy mine remediation and mine permitting, regional water resources evaluations, and site contaminant fate and transport studies.
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills, including a familiarity with hydrogeologic analysis software such as current versions of MODFLOW, MT3DMS/MT3D-USGS, model pre-/post-processing software (e.g., Groundwater Vistas, flopy, Model Muse), and analytical model software (e.g., BIOSCREEN, SESOIL, GFLOW, WinFLOW etc.).
  • Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS is preferred.
  • Computer programming experience using Python, R, MATLAB, Fortran, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), or other programming languages is preferred.
  • Experience in collecting and interpreting aquifer test data and with aquifer test analysis software (e.g., AQTESOLV, AquiferWin32).
  • Experience with geologic modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog) is preferred.
  • Experience with statistical and geostatistical methods is preferred.
  • Experience with parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis, especially use of PEST is preferred.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification and MSHA Part 48 training are preferred.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment with other BC offices and staff
  • Highly organized, reliable, and able to work well with others.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $78,000 - $115,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
