Currently, Brown and Caldwell office has a job opportunity in our California offices for a self-motivated Engineer or Scientist for Air Permitting and Greenhouse Gas Reporting. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual to support air compliance and permitting projects in California and nationally. This person can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each and every project we undertake. You will work with a nationally recognized team of engineers and scientists.

Detailed Description:

The ideal candidate will have strong technical, written, and verbal skills. We are looking for someone that is highly organized and capable of working with a diverse team of scientists and engineers on multiple tasks with competing priorities. The successful candidate will have a positive, can do attitude; will be flexible and self-motivated, creative and well-organized, and quality-oriented with attention to detail. Projects needing support include air permitting and greenhouse gas inventory reporting for municipal utilities, as well as private sector industrial and commercial facilities. This position will be part of a team of air practitioners supporting air services nationally for our clients. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparation of air permit applications for industrial and municipal utility operations.
  • Preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventories for third-party verification.
  • Technical writing of permitting documents.
  • Communicating environmental requirements directly to the project team and/or client.
  • Conducting compliance related site visits, inventorying/assessing facilities for compliance plans and conducting compliance audits.
  • Conducting regulatory research.
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical memoranda and reports related to air compliance and permitting.
  • Interacting and communicating directly with clients on behalf of Brown and Caldwell.
  • Performing project site visits outside the office, including commercial and industrial facilities and construction sites.
  • Working independently and with teams to complete assignments with other team members in a virtual platform.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to support regional and national client teams.
  • Working with internal Client Service Teams in preparing proposals.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in environmental engineering or related work.
  • BS Degree in Engineering (e.g., Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Material Science) or Science (e.g., Atmospheric, Environmental, Meteorological, Chemistry, Toxicology, Data Science) required
  • MS degree and/or Professional Engineering experience a plus
  • Previous air permitting and/or greenhouse gas experience through professional or scholastic project work required
  • High Proficiency in Excel and ability to use other Microsoft Office Programs is required.
  • Permitting and compliance experience, general knowledge of local, state and federal air emissions regulations is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience communicating with Stakeholders and regulatory agency staff a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work product to internal teams and clients.
