Job Description

In this role, you will lead a small team of talented software engineers with a diverse range of experience to support the development of software for treatment delivery from radiation therapy devices, an integral modality for improving the health of many cancer patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities;

Team Leadership:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for a small team of software engineers and serve as the primary point of contact for that team

  • Manage sub-team performance through regular coaching and mentoring as well as more formal performance reviews

  • Facilitate the estimation of development times, adjust resourcing and priority as needed and communicate changes and challenges on an ongoing basis

  • Act as an advocate by removing obstacles, escalating challenges, and facilitating discussions with stakeholders

  • Monitor, nurture, and enforce technical excellence and quality in work produced by the team

  • Work with system engineers, project managers, and other technical and group leads to plan and execute the development of complex, cross-team, and/or cross-functional features

Team Development:

  • Provide feedback on individual strengths, developmental needs, and surfacing interests through regular one-on-one conversations

  • Help to identify skill gaps and assists in planning to address them through cross-training, hiring, or sharing work with other engineering groups

  • Participate in the selection of new team members

  • Reward and recognize performance, utilizing Accuray programs and those of the department

  • Identify stretch and growth opportunities for team members

  • Help establish the technical vision and foster innovation within the team

Organizational Excellence:

  • Proactively share information in a timely manner with the right audiences at an appropriate level of detail

  • Drive continuous improvements to tools and processes that enhance development efficiency and product quality

  • Ensure compliance with Accuray processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, a STEM major (science, technology, engineering, and math), or similar discipline

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and solve complex problems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Experience:

  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment, preferably developing software for medical devices

  • Experience with agile frameworks such as scrum or XP

  • Experience leading others in a professional setting either in a formal or informal capacity
