Overview

JENSEN HUGHES has a job opportunity for a Fire Protection Hazardous Material Consultant in our California office, Los Angeles or Anaheim. This person will perform, direct and grow fire protection and/or process safety service offerings in industrial occupancies, including fire and building code analysis, process hazard analysis (PHA), process safety management (PSM), dust hazard analysis (DHA) and fire protection and life safety and code analysis. Resources will be provided to support significant business development, and internal staff hiring and training.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be ready to do the following:

    Provide Fire Protection and Code Consulting for hazardous materials and hazardous operations for industrial, manufacturing, warehouse and science and technology clients.
  • Have intimate knowledge of California fire and building codes and their applicability to such occupancies
  • Understands the design requirements for fire and explosion protection and prevention systems for industrial occupancies
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial best practices addressing hazardous materials and operations such as NFPA 33,35, 61, 86, 400, 484, 654 and other NFPA standards.
  • Conducts fire hazard analysis and Dust Hazard Analysis for such occupancies
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of variables in situations where limited or no standardization exist
  • Assist clients with fire code permitting, fire department corrections and building and fire code compliance plans for special hazards
  • Provide training and mentoring to internal staff and new hires Regular involvement in regional and national industry organizations
  • Work with management and other internal BD resources to execute strategic plans
  • Informed business development with both existing and new clients
  • Guide development of tools and templates for use by internal staff
  • Conduct or oversee FHA,PHA,DHA and PSM projects Plan and/or direct process safety audit activities
  • May serve as expert, guest speaker or contributing author to publications in niche area such as Combustible dust safety consulting
  • High-level written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations, etc., and to respond to questions from clients, prospective clients, management and internal staff.
  • Ability to build and execute strategic plans to grow market share, with assistance of management, and the technical, BD and marketing staff

Desired but not required:

  • Knowledge of industry best practices and insurance standard such as Factory Mutual
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fourteen PSM elements, and one or more PHA techniques
  • Knowledge/experience in one or more of the following specialized areas is desirable but not all critical: industrial safety/hygiene/OSHA audits Electrical safety Industrial (specialty) ventilation analysis and design instrumentation & controls (safety instrumented systems) Emergency planning
  • Conduct or oversee QRA, including consequence modeling
Qualifications

Bachelors degree (B.S.) or higher, and 10 or more years of related experience and/or training; OR Equivalent combination of education and experience Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Institute of Safety and Health Management (ISHM) or comparable certification strongly preferred 25%-50% travel time
