The Lab Engineer will support various scientific, engineering, and research activities within a laboratory setting. This role is crucial in ensuring that experiments, test unit operation, and data analysis are conducted efficiently, accurately, and safely. Lab Engineers often contribute to the design of experiments, ensuring they are feasible, safe, and will yield meaningful results. This position will support our High Throughput R&D Center within the Catalyst Business Unit in Palo Alto, CA.


Responsibilities

 

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot catalyst test units and analytical tools used to discover new catalysts and processes that deliver value to SC businesses
  • Specifically, evaluate catalysts in high-throughput and conventional fixed bed and batch reactors using analytical hardware such as gas and liquid chromatography
  • You will work with analytical methods such as XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, IR, TPD\TPR, HPLC, GC, MS, etc.; including method development
  • Develop and implement GC methods and maintain equipment
  • Work-up, analyze, and present data using appropriate specialty software packages such as DOE, visualization, and statistical analysis programs
  • Operate a safe laboratory by working closely with the site safety committee and coworkers
  • Contributes to the development of new HT methods
  • Contributes to IP generation and assists with patent preparation

 


 

Requirements

  • Masters in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field with up to 2 years of industrial experience in heterogeneous catalysis
  • Bachelors in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field with up to 4 years of industrial experience in heterogeneous catalysis
  • Skilled in the evaluation of solid catalysts in fixed and fluidized bed or batch reactor systems 
  • Knowledgeable in the use of automated laboratory hardware and software, and in data analysis and reduction software and techniques.
  • Experience with analytical methods such as XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, IR, TPD\TPR, HPLC, GC, MS, etc.; including method development.
  • Superior creativity and imagination with respect to new products, processes, procedures
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with extended project teams on HT projects.
  • Familiarity with HT R&D methods & experienced in conducting team-oriented Research & Development
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis

 

Compensation:

  • $80,000-$95,000
  • Salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to individual competencies, education/professional certifications, experience and performance in the role
  • This position offers a 5% Annual Company Based Bonus
