The Southwest Digital Water lead will be responsible for advancing the sales and delivery of Brown and Caldwell's (BC) digital technology focused services throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona. The lead leverages strong relationship skills to harness our Electrical and Process Automation Services (EPAS), Analytics Engineering, and Information Technology (IT) resources in the delivery of successful Digital Water projects and achieving business unit growth goals. The Southwest Digital Water lead reports directly to an California/Desert Business Unit (CalDesBU) Manager, with a matrixed relationship to the National Digital Water Services Leader.

BC's Digital Water team exists to develop flexible and adaptable digital solutions that optimize our clients' facility and organizational performance. Historically, BC's market leading innovations focused primarily on wastewater, water, and remediation process technologies have established us as a top 10 firm in the water industry. Over the last 10 years, BC has also built one of the strongest EPAS teams in the industry just as these services have become more strategic for our clients and a ripe area for innovation. In addition, the multi-disciplinary innovative arena of Smart Utility, much of which is anchored in Instrumentation and Controls (I&C), data analytics, and IT systems, is rapidly gaining momentum in the market. BC's branded offering in the space, BC Blue, is considered market leading.

Example technology projects include SCADA master plans, SCADA upgrades, control system replacements, and the next generation of Smart Utility (BC Blue) projects to optimize asset operations and utility decision making. Digital water projects may include services from EPAS, IT (GIS, business intelligence, data management, mobility), asset management, and data analytics resources. The Digital Water group implements the digital components of utility performance optimization projects for BC subject matter experts in treatment process, conveyance, water resources, asset management and operations & maintenance (O&M).

EXPECTATIONS:

The Southwest Digital Water lead will oversee a significant portfolio of BC pursuits and projects in a geography that includes the CalDes BU (Northern California, Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona). The role includes a broad range of responsibilities, such as recruiting and developing a team of Digital Water delivery managers; oversight of Digital Water related projects; developing relationships and opportunities with clients; maintaining a portfolio of sales prospects; extensive collaboration with and coordination between enterprise and local resources to execute Digital Water work; and mentoring Client Service Managers (CSMs) on Digital Water services. The lead is responsible for contributing to and then executing the Digital Water strategy from BC's National Utility Performance practice in the CalDes BU.

KEY PRIORITIES:

Build the Digital Water Delivery Team

  • Develop and manage a dedicated group of Digital Water delivery managers dedicated to win and deliver standalone projects.
  • Oversee and manage select projects. This could be done by serving as the Project Manager, Technical Advisor or Technical Director.
  • Work with Design Services EPAS Discipline and Consulting Services Utility Performance partners to ensure regional business development and project delivery goals are incorporated into enterprise staff's priorities and resourcing plans and to inform creation of project teams, scopes and budgets.
  • Recruit top talent to implement strategy, business goals and project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with other leadership to identify and mentor current and future PMs and CSMs for Digital Water projects.

Drive Growth

  • Be a steward and accountable owner of Digital Water services growth. Balanced emphasis between short-term sales and long-term growth.
  • Selectively support strategic positioning and messaging on key company top pursuits to include Digital Water services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with some of BC's top clients.
  • Provide leadership in obtaining and developing new key clients each year in connection with our strategy and annual planned targets.
  • Maintain the CalDes BU Digital Water opportunity funnel.
  • Where appropriate, serve as pursuit leader or sponsor for one or more of the highest priority pursuits in the CalDes BU; assist others as needed.

Strategy and Business Planning

Support CalDes BU strategy with expansion of Digital Water services, specifically:

  • Inform development of the business unit overall strategy and annual plan by defining Digital Water market potential and identifying top opportunities, investments, and budget needs.
  • Engage business units CSMs, business leaders, and delivery team members to create and maintain alignment around the national and regional Digital Water business strategy.
  • Be a visible leader and communicator of Digital Water capabilities, strategy, and imperatives.

Connect to BC National Teams

In all of the above, collaborate closely with:

  • National Digital Water leadership team align around BC's approach for Digital Water services and ensure connectivity to the CalDes BU strategy.
  • National BC Utility Performance leaders to align CalDes BU Digital Water efforts with broader utility performance optimization strategy
  • National Design Services leaders to ensure delivery resources are aligned to support growth potential.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS Engineering degree in discipline related to electrical, civil, environmental or instrumentation and controls.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience delivering consulting services to government, municipal, and/or industrial water and wastewater industries
  • Ability to lead a group with diverse ideas towards the delivery of a solid business plan.
  • Experience with flexing leadership style and approach to achieve desired outcomes
  • Experience in client relationship development and maintenance, as well as comfort with the sales and marketing elements of consulting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Possesses the social skills necessary to genuinely motivate and direct staff to produce high quality work and to maintain high individual and group morale
  • Proven ability to establish respect, credibility, and trust across the organization, with the goal of building successful coalitions
  • Candidate should be a self-starter, strong sense of accountability, be results-oriented and be able to work under tight and pressured deadlines.
  • Sensitivity to and focus on risk management actions, as well as comfort with adherence to governance protocols
  • Ability to travel to project/client locations as needed. Travel requirement is anticipated to be an average of 30% of the time.
