Participates in structured assignments in preparation for successful progression into an administrative occupational field.
Positions allocable to this class typically report to an assigned supervisor and/or mentor and receive both technical job training and guidance on workplace behavior, competencies, individual responsibilities, and development of administrative occupational skill sets. Veteran Intern, Administrative Support positions are assigned to assist journey or higher-level professional and technical administrative staff in central or line departments by researching, analyzing, and making recommendations for the solution of a variety of problems of budget, organization, program, or personnel to enhance previous job skills or to gain new experience in the administrative occupational area.
Positions receive formal and informal instruction on the principles of administrative support to govern satisfactory performance of the job. The internship program prepares veterans to compete for entry and journey-level administrative support jobs to continue public service in the area in which they have received training. Typically, veterans participate in this program for 12 to 24 months based on individual training and experience requirements. During the duration of the internship program, incumbents are expected to develop and demonstrate progressively increasing skills and to work with greater independence of action as they gain further experience and proficiency in their occupation for progression into permanent County positions. Intern assignments may be made on any shift, including County departments that have 24-hour responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions
Depending on the area of assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Participates in the research, analysis, interpretation, and recommendation of various administrative support activities related to budgetary requirements, department or agency organization, programs, and personnel.
- Researches information and analyzes statistical data to assist in housekeeping and record keeping functions.
- Assists in the preparation and the presentation of oral and/or written reports.
- Assists in promoting and maintaining public relations for various programs, services, or activities.
- Learns the structure and operation of County government.
- Attends training sessions and staff conferences.
No experience required; however, the veteran must have been discharged or released from active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States Armed Forces under honorable conditions.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
A valid DD214, Certificate of Discharge or Separation from Active Duty, is required.
2 - Light. Light physical effort which may included occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

A multiple choice test weighted 100% covering Achievement and Orientation, Dependability, Customer Service Potential, Customer Focus, Conscientiousness, and Retention.
MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
Applicants must meet the Minimum Requirements, receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the multiple choice test in order to be placed on the Eligible register.

Notice of Non-Acceptance and Final Result letter will be mailed via USPS. Multiple choice test scores cannot be given over the telephone.
TRANSFER OF SCORES:
Applicants that have taken identical multiple choice test part(s) for other exams within the last 12 months, will have their multiple choice test responses for the identical test part(s) automatically transferred to this examination.
This examination contains test parts that may be used in the future for new examinations. Your scores will be transferred to the new examination and may not be allowed to re-take any identical test parts for at least 12 months.

While these practice materials will help in preparing for the test, we advise you to review ALL related materials that you deem necessary.
Applications will be processed on an as received basis and those earning a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible register for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
A Selective Certification may be established for various languages. Pursuant to TITLE 5 - PERSONNEL, APPENDIX 1 (Civil Service Rule 11.03) of the Los Angeles County Code, Selective Certification may be used for some positions that require special skills and/or training.
This is a temporary position. Temporary employees can qualify for a County Medical Plan and Pension Savings Plan, but are not qualified to enroll in a contributory defined benefit pension plan. Please disregard any additional Benefit Information listed in this bulletin regarding benefits for permanent employees.
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout Los Angeles County, as they occur.
