Sirigen, Inc. is a subsidiary of BD Biosciences and produces polymeric reagents for use in Flow Cytometry and other biological applications.
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist/Chemist for our dye development team to develop novel fluorescent dyes for use in Flow Cytometry. The individual will work within cross-functional teams to address unmet needs within the Sirigen dye portfolio. The ideal candidate will apply their experience to create dyes from early proof-of-concept to formal product development, leveraging their expertise in small molecule and polymer chemistry, bioconjugation, optical spectroscopy, macromolecule separations and analytical characterization.
Collaborate with team to target and synthesize fluorescent dyes in line with Sirigen's commercial strategy.
Create or identify innovative new technologies for fluorescence-based biological detection both as an individual contributor for your team and subject matter expert for the company as a whole.
Perform and oversee a wide variety of small-molecule and macromolecular processing, purification and characterization steps.
Assist with development strategy by interpreting data and providing guidance to product development teams.
Work collaboratively in small teams with chemists, biochemists and applications scientists to establish dye specifications.
Work within early product pipelines, contributing to various stages of development from early proof-of-concept to process development.
Build case for setting dye specifications through statistical processes and data analysis.
Draft SOPs, technical reports, and presentations for communicating project progress.
Mentor associates and scientists in setting up, purifying and characterizing chemical reactions including assistance in data interpretation and experimental design.
Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Master's degree with at least 5 years' experience OR Ph.D with 1 year of experience in an organic or relevant materials chemistry environment.
Minimum of 5 years' academic/industry experience in organic synthesis/bioconjugation/materials science.
Minimum of 5 years' experience with UV/Vis and/or fluorescence spectroscopy.
Minimum of 3 years' experience with HPLC/SEC/IEX.
Good organizational and project planning skills.
Experience with product design and product development.
Efficient with experimental design including statistical approaches such as Design of Experiment (DoE) approach.
Experience with Six Sigma, MiniTab, or statistical analysis.
Able to present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors.
Lead and/or participate in technical meetings and provide recommendations based on technical results.
Strong diagnostic, analytical and technical ability.
Strong technical writing skills.
Multi-task to cover a variety of job functions.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
