Job Title: Automation Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Automation Technician I requirements plus:
  • Identify MEP systems on drawings
  • Understand the intent of individual mechanical equipment
    • Chillers
    • Boilers
    • Pumps
    • AHU's
    • FCU's
    • VAV's
    • EF's
  • Trouble shoot and test complex electrical circuits
    • VFD's
    • Motor Starters
    • Transducers
    • Actuators
    • Sensors
    • Relay Logic
  • Advanced knowledge of controls hardware
  • Identify potential scopes of work for controls implementation.
  • Interact with field electricians and specify methods of installation
  • Trace out and read communication bus wiring and tests components to locate defective parts in analog and digital systems
  • Removes defective instruments from new or existing systems, disassembles and repairs the instruments and replaces using hand tools.
  • Consult with team members and customer for recommended upgrades, energy savings opportunities or operational changes to equipment.
  • Modify or create programming to provide requested operational changes or to add new devices.
  • For existing systems has the ability to execute or oversee regular system maintenance, (backups, downloads, performance monitoring, etc.)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum eight (8) years of direct automation experience with control systems and programing required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or equivalent field experience. .
  • Working knowledge of at least two HVAC controls systems (preferably Delta, Johnson Controls or Andover)
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems
  • Ability to interface with customers at a supervisory and management level.
  • Engineering skills required include knowledge of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics and computer programming.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with control system architecture design, programing or maintenance desired.
  • Good computer skills, understanding of controls networking.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and meet MVR requirements to operate company vehicle.
