The Principal Engineer is tasked with developing geotechnical engineering project opportunities and markets, with particular emphasis on Northern California (specifically San Francisco Bay Area) infrastructure, public agency, and water resources markets. This role will supervise geotechnical projects and programs of high difficulty, with work being reviewed as needed.

This individual will be the primary Manager and client contact for multiple large projects, supervise large, multi-disciplinary project teams and subcontractors, and handle all aspects of consulting business including participation in corporate management, business and client development, and direction of technical work.

Salary Range - $130,000 - 180,000 per year

Job Responsibilities

Make decisions and recommendations recognized as authoritative and have a significant impact on extensive geotechnical engineering activities. Initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented geotechnical engineering problems, determining objectives, organizing projects, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities.

  • Meet the business development and/or marketing objectives set by the Service Line Manager, General Manager, or supervisor.
  • Mentor junior personnel and help them grow and advance in the company.
  • Responsible for an important segment of the engineering program of the company with extensive and diversified engineering requirements.
  • Able to solve critical problems that require major technological advances and extensive development.
  • Recommend facilities, personnel, and funds required for programs, which are directly related and directed toward fulfillment of overall company objectives.
  • Recognized leader and technical authority in the company.
  • Conceive and plan integrated site investigations of broad areas of considerable novelty and importance for which engineering precedents are lacking.
  • Consult extensively with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice.
  • Direct team members or individuals assisting on projects. Mentor performance excellence and adherence to quality standards.
  • Produce accurate invoices and collect fees from clients in a timely manner.
  • promptly extensively (required), both domestically and internationally.
  • Meet utilization goals as determined by the Service Line Manager, General Manager, or supervisor.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including the safety program and quality management system.

Job Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions
  • Minimum 15+ years of relative experience in geotechnical engineering with primary emphasis on the San Francisco Bay Area, post-graduate experience preferred.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology (with work experience focused on geotechnical engineering), or equivalent. Master from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology (with work experience focused on geotechnical engineering), or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be licensed CA Professional Engineer.
  • Posses a valid passport and current driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills including a comprehensive understanding of writing for engineering documents and related legal terminology. Ability to competently and professionally present project materials in client meetings including identifying and mitigating client concerns.
  • General knowledge of sales, pricing, and negotiating.
  • Effective client relationship management with a dedicated client base and the proven ability to produce annual revenue.Should have proven experience working with and teaming with local contractors and A&E firms. Should have proven experience working as a trusted advisor with local agencies and clients.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally (international and domestic).
