Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
The Tiger Trainer (Personal Trainer) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and accessible programming for individual and small group clients of all ages and degrees of health. The Tiger Trainer actively participates in outstanding customer service.
Essential Functions
  • Be on time and prepared for work. On time is five (5) minutes before scheduled session, appointment, or meeting. Attend all fitness staff meetings, in-services, and individually-requested meetings.
  • Schedule and conduct private personal training sessions for clients, following protocols as accepted and provided by Pacific Recreation.
  • Execute initial consultations and fitness assessment testing, following protocols as accepted and provided by Pacific Recreation.
  • Model, promote, and consistently enforce campus recreation policies.
  • Design exercise programs for a variety of participants utilizing the fitness program by combining individual health and fitness goals with fitness assessment results.
  • Execute fitness-related special events.
  • Respond to clients'/participants' questions and comments with superior customer service, and provide motivation and support for all clients regarding participation in an exercise program.
  • Maintain assessment and personal training equipment inventory. Make recommendations for future assessment and personal training program purchases.
  • Assist, when needed, with tours/sales for prospective clients and stay informed with current pricing options.
  • Maintain accurate records of all clients' fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, progress notes, and important concerns. Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Clock in and out during all hours worked.
  • Be responsible for organization, safety and cleanliness of the training floor, as well as other areas when needed.
  • Monitor the safety of participants in regards to heart rate, exercise technique, posture and spine, as well as joint stress and stability when resistance training.
  • Report any major issues, problems, or concerns directly to professional staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three (3) months of experience as a personal trainer.
  • Current fitness certification from a Pacific Rec approved education association such as ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, AFFA, NFPT, NPTI, WITS.
  • Current CPR/AED certification or obtain within 30 days of hire. In-house certification provided, if necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to create effective and safe exercise prescriptions with the capacity to train all fitness levels, novice to elite.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, and body mechanics.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized while training up to three (3) clients in one training session.
  • Positive, motivating and effective interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Sessions are scheduled Monday through Sunday and may include early morning hours, afternoon hours and evening hours. Flexible to Trainer/Client Availability and Baun Fitness Center Hours of Operation.
Hiring Range $16.00-$32.00 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
