The Social Service Aide will work as part of a team of staff and volunteers to create a positive experience for individuals who come through our doors while meeting basic needs, assisting with questions, and maintaining dignity and confidentiality for all.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Ability to keep a positive attitude and work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to use current Microsoft software computer programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, as well as e-mail, Adobe Acrobat and the internet
  • Excellent interpersonal, telephone and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of consumers, staff, and community partners while representing The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to be professional and courteous at all times
  • Excellent detail, organization, and file management skills
  • Demonstrated dependability, maturity, and initiative; must be able to maintain program/guest/agency confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Ability to work alone and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule, prioritize tasks, address multiple projects in a timely manner and take projects from beginning through completion
  • Knowledge of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)/ Wellsky preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and pass a motor vehicle record check and successfully pass Defensive Driving courses provided by The Salvation Army.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn requirements of Salvation Army program and services
  • Greet and assist clients and visitors and do initial assessment to determine client's specific needs
  • Maintain Social Service Appointment Schedule
  • Answer incoming calls, provide general information and resources to the public, and route calls to appropriate staff member
  • Pick up voicemail messages multiple times per day
  • Screen and determine eligibility for Food Boxes, Hygiene Items, and Clothing Items
  • Assist with Social Service Record Keeping and Wellsky entry.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly statistics.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of food boxes, distribute food, water, clothing, and personal items
  • Assist with updating and maintaining a service and referral information list of community partners within Yuma County.
  • Assist with scheduling of Social Service Volunteers.
  • Assist with Seasonal Assistance and Summer Camp applications
  • Assist with initial screening, intake applications, and statistics for Social Service Programs to Include but not Limited To:
  • Rental/Utility Assistance
  • Veteran Services
  • Pathway of Hope
  • Food Pantry
  • Mobile Feeding
  • Mobile Casework
  • Heat Relief
  • Seasonal Assistance
  • Clothing Closet
  • Referral Network
  • Perform additional duties as directed by Corps Officer as related to the position of Social Service Aide.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. Ability to work in extremely hot summer weather and moderately cold temps in the winter. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
