The Position

Senior Fellow - Neuroimmunology

Genentech is seeking a creative and highly accomplished scientist to develop and lead a research program in Neuroimmunology, focused on neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system. Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic direction and oversight of research into immunopathogenesis in neurodegenerative diseases
  • Leadership of an independent research group in the Neuroscience Department
  • Accountability for new target and new molecular entity discovery in neuroimmunology
  • Directing and mentoring junior scientists working in neuroimmunology
  • Discovery of clinically relevant pharmacodynamic markers, working together with the Biomarker Discovery Department
  • Contribution to the strategy, creation and implementation of research, biomarker and clinical hypothesis testing for new molecular entities in neuroimmunology
  • Strategic and scientific collaboration with Scientists in the Immunology, Neurobiology, Human Genetics, Bioinformatics, Translational Neuroscience Departments
  • Strategic and scientific collaboration with the Large and Small Molecule Drug Discovery organizations

The leader of the Neuroimmunology group will

  • Serve on the Neuroscience leadership team
  • Have a secondary appointment in Immunology and advise and collaborate with the Immunology leadership team
  • Participate as an ad hoc member of the Research Review Committee and the Development Review Committee
  • Report to VP of Neuroscience

Requirements:

  • MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent with in depth training in a relevant field, and deep understanding of biological pathways relevant to neuroimmunology.
  • An internationally recognized leader in neuroimmunology, as evidenced by a longstanding record of scientific discoveries including recent publications in top tier journals, presentations and international meetings, and service on scientific strategy and review panels.
  • At least 10 years' experience directing and managing scientific research. Experience in target identification, biomarker identification, and/or drug discovery desirable.
  • The candidate must also demonstrate evidence of successful strategic leadership through positions of increasing responsibility and leadership in his/her home institution and in national and international organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, mentor, and motivate talented scientists.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco ,CA is $207,300 - $385,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
