Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Environmental Planner, we'll count on you to

  • Assist our environmental science and planning teams with management and reviews of highly technical NEPA projects that include space and missile launches, satellite systems, radar and satellite communications, space and airspace management, and other aerospace programs tied to DoD system acquisitions
  • Provide Program Readiness Reviews; Environmental Impact Analysis Process (EIAP) documentation; and other system acquisition related engineering, planning, and compliance documentation (e.g., Programmatic Environment, Safety and Occupational Health Evaluation [PESHE])
  • Provide technical NEPA and general environmental expertise at project level and assist with growing HDR's environmental program through development of client relationships and identification of opportunities for expansion of our environmental services
  • Take responsibility for project management and staff management, as well as marketing, business development and client management
  • Establish sequencing of environmental tasks/projects, from financial management through successful completion of the project, utilizing our technology, standards and project delivery practices
  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity
  • Preparation and review of NEPA documents (including Environmental Assessments and AF Form 813s) and related technical studies. Other writing assignments as necessary
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Coordinate workload with project team throughout entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Work with the Controller and Managing Principal for project reviews
  • Supervise project staffs and act as mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
  • Assistance with public outreach activities under NEPA
  • Oversight of all aspects of environmental projects including scope, schedule, and budget
  • Occasional travel within and outside of the U.S. to military installations and defense contractor facilities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science or closely related field; Master's degree preferred
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental planning/NEPA; EIAP and Air Force Instruction experience necessary
  • This position is subject to a governmental background check
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance
  • Proven experience managing the NEPA process for DoD system acquisition, research, and other development programs
  • Proven experience working on airspace issues and FAA NEPA, airspace modeling, and military aircraft noise modeling
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $114,471.00 - $163,530.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
