Job Overview

We are seeking an Associate Materials and Processes Engineer to join our facility in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area). This is an entry-level opportunity where you will provide materials and processes (M&P) engineering support to engineering team lead.

This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.

Essential Functions

Under direct supervision and following specific instructions and established policies, this individual performs professional engineering assignments requiring full use and application of standard engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques. The position requires some independent professional judgment and application of engineering principles, theories and concepts.

50% - Support Design Process: Working under the direction of senior M&P staff the engineer will support product designs by providing material and process selection recommendations, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, and supporting Engineering Review Boards; participating in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings; evaluating suppliers and their materials and processes to ensure they meet requirements.

40% - Support Product and Process Development: Working as part of a team, the engineer will conduct a variety of tasks, such as evaluating metal forming processes, metallic joining techniques (brazing, welding), and corrosion protection (passivation, anodization, plating); assessing fluid compatibility, stress corrosion, and hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility; identifying advanced materials; establishing standards for experimental, test and/or production purposes; performing laboratory and manufacturing experiments; and interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting on data and processes.

10% - Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree in Materials Engineering preferred.

Strong project planning, critical thinking, written and oral communication skills are required. Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. Candidate must be experienced using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This position requires the ability to read, interpret, prepare, and issue drawings and related specifications, as well as the ability to use test and other measurement equipment. Six Sigma knowledge and experience in the aerospace industry are desired.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employee may need to work near moving mechanical parts and in loud working conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, chemicals or airborne particles. Laboratory work will also be required to evaluate materials and failure analysis.

In addition, employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
60,500 - 84,500 per year
