Position Summary

As the Risk & Research Technology Manager, you'll be at the forefront of revolutionizing our investment technology. This role is part of the Engineering Solutions organization and reports directly to TCW's Head of Risk and Research Technology. You'll drive our mission for innovative idea generation and technology advancement, empowering our investment professionals with cutting-edge analytics tools. Leading pivotal projects, including cloud transition, research sandbox creation, operational resilience enhancement, and portfolio platform integration.

We're looking for a candidate with a background in financial services, especially in investment risk and quantitative research systems. Experience collaborating with senior leadership to optimize operations and integrate technology is key.

Essential Duties
    Technology Leadership: Drive the evolution of development and operational practices, ensuring seamless integration with core platforms. Direct the execution and integration of advanced Risk & Research Core Systems, in partnership with enterprise technology departments.
  • Team Building: Lead the Risk & Research Core Systems team, focusing on recruiting, retaining, and developing top technical talent to foster innovation.
  • Innovative Leadership: Foster a culture of innovation within the team, driving exploration of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Strategic Vendor Management: Partner with the Global Sourcing and Procurement Organization to oversee relationships with external vendors, align with departmental goals, and ensure compliance.
  • Effective Risk Management: Collaborate with risk management teams to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with systems and projects, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering or quantitative roles, with at least 4 years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
  • Extensive experience in the financial industry, particularly in Investment Risk & Quant Research systems, with a proven ability to drive departmental goals
  • Demonstrated ability to handle projects of varying complexity, emphasizing effective resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
Professional Skills Qualifications
  • Effective communication skills, capable of building strong relationships across technical and non-technical teams at all levels.
  • Demonstrated integrity in decision-making and communication, prioritizing the organization's best interests.
  • Results-oriented mindset, with a focus on setting clear and achievable goals, overcoming obstacles, and ensuring accountability.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new finance concepts and technologies, staying aligned with industry trends and guiding the team in their application to advance the department's mission.
Desired Qualifications
  • CSPO/CSM/PMP/CAPM or related certifications
  • Certifications in Azure or relevant technologies
  • Experience with Institutional Quant Platforms, Investment Risk Management, Quantitative Research, or Performance/Returns Attribution systems.
  • Experience in facilitating organizational change, especially technology adoption
  • Understanding of financial regulations for compliance

Estimated Compensation:

Base Salary: For California based position, the base salary range is $190k to $200k. This is an anticipated range only.

Other Compensation: Eligible to be considered for an annual discretionary bonus
