Job Summary

The Senior Physician Executive, Network Integration, is an experienced physician with demonstrated leadership skills who facilitates the integration between UCSF Health network and acquired, merged or affiliated hospitals/health systems by supporting the establishment of common clinical standards and practices, sustaining a culture of safety and quality, strengthening the integration of clinical care and program development to allow growth and to improve patient care outcomes. The Integration Medical Director acts as a liaison between health system administrations, affiliate partners, UCSF SOM chairs, leaders and faculty, and sets of medical staff, providing oversight and direction for the coordination of patient care services and physician matters. He/she will collaborate with multiple hospital administrations and multiple physicians and physician groups to ensure high-quality, accessible and affordable patient care is delivered between health systems.

During the integration period, the Senior Physician Executive, Network Integration, coordinates medical operations for the hospital(s) or clinic(s) being merged, acquired or affiliated by understanding the current state of patient care and working with the network integration leader to ensuring patients receive the highest quality clinical care, providing physician leadership for the UC owned or affiliated health system. Implements safe, cost-effective, efficient medical interventions and ensures seamless medical care across inpatient units and ambulatory sites. Partners with existing clinical leadership at the network site to determine clinical needs and facilitates prioritization of needs with UCSF Health network and other potential partners. Identifies quality, safety, financial, programmatic and community needs and develops plans to achieve the integration goals outlined by senior network leadership.

Partners with existing clinical experts at the network site to determine clinical needs and facilitates prioritization of needs with UCSF Health network and other potential partners. Identifies quality, safety, financial, programmatic and community needs and develops plans to achieve the integration goals outlined by senior network leadership. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Facilitates the integration of newly affiliated, merged, or acquired entities into UCSF Health, with an eye toward strategic initiatives, cultural transformation, and technological advancement to streamline operations and ensure best in class clinical services. Drives the establishment of common clinical standards and practices, sustaining a culture of safety and quality, strengthening the integration of clinical care and program development to allow growth and to improve patient care outcomes.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

MD or equivalent and current CA State Medical License.
5 or more years in medical practice with 2 or more years experience with acute care hospital functions and leadership.
Bachelor's degree in business, health administration or clinical degree and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to handle the executive management responsibilities in a hospital or small line of business.
Expert knowledge of health care delivery models, business and strategic planning, financial management, program development implementation and organizational development.
Possesses a highly advanced ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple medical center executives, campus leadership, external agencies, and other academic medical centers and healthcare institutions.
Expert ability to establish and utilize hospital metrics to drive excellence, support operations and facilitate integration.
Expert knowledge of capital and operating budget development and management, financial analysis, and reporting techniques.
Advanced knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations that may involve public scrutiny.
Highly advanced interpersonal skills. Expert negotiation and influencing skills.

Highly advanced ability to build and maintain a climate of trust that inspires commitment to achieve organization goals.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead change initiatives and to promote solid interpersonal relationship while making objective decisions and gaining consensus among a diverse audience including physicians and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in business, health administration or clinical degree preferred.
Board Certification in relevant specialty preferred.

License/Certification

CA State Medical License.
