Job Overview

The Specialist Engineer, Tools and Design, located in Canoga Park, CA, will assist in the development and design of a variety of tools and equipment required to support manufacturing, quality and test operations. You will perform feasibility analysis of special tool plans; create tool concepts and ensure Tool Designers create tool models and drawings which utilize current environmental health and safety procedures, tool standards manuals and sound engineering practices; initiate fabrication and assist with inspection and operational checkout of special tools; and resolve tooling problems encountered during tool usage.

Essential Functions

With minimal direction, the Specialist Tool Engineer applies technical expertise to directly contribute to the development of new concepts and techniques. This position exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

  • Solves complex technical problems.
  • Plans, conducts, and technically directs tool engineering projects or major phases of significant tooling assignments, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Analyzes tool production capability, projection of tool shop loads, estimating costs and providing input for special tooling to proposals
  • Provides technical guidance to the critical review committee process
  • Has ability to open, evaluate, understand and provide feedback on 3D tool models
  • Has advanced understanding of GD&T and its importance to the design process, with ability to provide feedback and guidance to Tool Designers
  • May act as a technical and/or functional consultant to manufacturing and tooling research and to special equipment problems
  • May act as technical Tool Engineering lead for Tooling Design and Fabrication Team and may have technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments for less experienced tool engineers.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and nine (9) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driver's License Requirement:

Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license. Employees who drive on company business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the Company. Eligibility for employment for those who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Special Requirement:

Some positions may need to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense top secret clearance and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:
100,000 - 147,333 per year
