Position Summary

The Teacher is to plan, monitor, and coordinate implementation of activities to help children develop emotionally, physically, socially, and cognitively. The teacher encourages active learning through creative curriculum, loving interactions, and exploration in a safe, predictable environment.

Pay Rate

$17.50/hr. - $19.75/hr.

Essential Functions

As an employee of The Salvation Army - representing, nurturing, protecting, and advancing the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army; and serving the needs of people in our community with dignity and respect. Conduct on and off the job must sustain a positive impact on The Salvation Army's goals, programs, and public image.

  • Develop creative curriculum lessons to meet and support developmental needs of all children with age-appropriate activities in all developmental areas for both indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, creative, inviting, age-appropriate classroom environment including centers in multiple educational subjects.
  • Support the ethical, cultural, and confidentiality of each child and to provide diversity and difference with anti-bias curriculum.
  • Approach challenging behavioral and speech concerns in fair, firm, and caring manner.
  • Ensures and adheres to TSA code of ethics, TSA program standards-policies and procedures, and Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) requirements.
  • Assist in family style dining and guide children towards healthy eating habits aligning with Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP).
  • Maintain classroom and outdoor in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, adhering to proper health and safety codes under Title 5 & 22 regulations.
  • Maintain children's files as specified by the Director and/or Assistant Director and under regulations of funding sources.
  • Effectively document classroom daily attendances, child health checks, absence forms, sign in & out sheets, food program and billing forms daily.
  • Complete all other necessary documents in an organized and timely manner.
  • Document child's behavior, speech, and milestone developments for referral matters.
  • Assist with child's toilet needs (if/when needed).
  • Complete DRDP's, ECERS, and SE-ASQ's in a timely manner with appropriate attachments.
  • Parent Conference forms completed in a timely manner as well as meeting with child's parents using various communication methods.
  • Attend and participate in professional training events throughout the year.
  • Fully complete annual mandatory trainings required by CDE, CDSS, CCLD, and The Salvation Army. Trainings to include, but not limited to: PTM-Protect the Mission, Sexual Harassment, and others as determined.
  • Provide active support of, and participation in all Salvation Army campaigns and initiatives, including attending field trips with students.
  • Develop appropriate relationships and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with other Salvation Army associates, guests, members, volunteers, partners, and vendors.
  • Serves as a mandated reporter and reports child abuse matters immediately.
  • Report any suspected child abuse matters immediately to your immediate supervisors.
  • Be on duty as assigned, always maintaining focus on the children.
  • Must always provide "Active Visual Supervision" in and out of the classroom.
  • For break or lunch, ensure a teacher is in place before leaving the classroom or playground to maintain ratio compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of family, staff & proprietary information.
  • Pleasantly greet children & families upon daily arrival and departure, while maintaining active supervision of children.
  • Ability to use excellent judgment relating to sensitive matters towards, children, families, staff, and community.

Employees may also be requested to perform other reasonable business-related duties by their supervisors or corps officer.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate computer, laptop, tablets, copier machine, and telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the health dept., licensing division, and The Salvation Army.

Qualifications

  • A valid Child Development Associate Teacher permit issued by CTC-California Teaching Credential Association.
  • Valid Pediatric/Infant CPR and First Aid certificate/card.
  • Health screening form (LIC503) completed by a physician with TB clearance or risk assessment. Must be in good physical and mental condition. Capable of meeting demands of caring for young children.
  • Proof of required vaccinations: Pertussis (whooping cough), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), and influenza (flu). (or documentation of exemption)
  • Must pass initial and annual live scan/criminal background checks conducted by Dept. of Justice (DOJ), and by The Salvation Army.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Must possess the skills and have the capability of meeting the demands of caring for young children.
  • Ability to write and speak English effectively.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Have skills to multitask.
  • Ability to identify potential problems/provide suggestions to assist in resolution.
  • Must possess good relationship skills.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible with changes in the program or center.
Qualifications

Experience
A Valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit Issued By CTC-California Teaching Credential Association. (required)
