The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is seeking a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for our open science projects, with an emphasis on community building, communications, and data science training for the Arctic Data Center.
The candidate's primary work focus will be with the Arctic Data Center, with the potential to contribute to other projects and activities at NCEAS as the needs
of the projects and Center change. NCEAS leads, operates, and/or collaborates on many nationally-scoped research programs, including the Permafrost
Discovery Gateway and DataONE. The Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator will support a national effort to coordinate community
engagement around the Arctic Data Center. Activities will include representation of the projects through written communications, presentations, participation
in meetings and conferences, webinars, exhibitor events, social media and in the development of promotional and educational materials. These activities focus
on generating meaningful engagement of target communities, increasing awareness of the project, and soliciting feedback. Activities are designed to support users, build engagement, and develop a community of practice around the Arctic Data Center. The Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator has
responsibility for conducting community engagement and outreach activities in a manner consistent with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of
the Arctic Data Center and NCEAS. The individual will report to the Director of Research and Development, Informatics while working closely with leadership
and team members at the Arctic Data Center, NCEAS, and other NCEAS programs.
NCEAS works to accelerate scientific discoveries that will enhance our understanding of the world and benefit people and nature, as well as to transform the scientific culture to be more open, efficient, and collaborative. NCEAS is part of UCSB but housed in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara.
NCEAS facilitates synthesis research and collaboration in environmental science, ecology, and environmental data science, conducted as part of research
initiatives led by NCEAS and Center Fellows. Each year NCEAS hosts more than 700 visiting scientists and practitioners and over 30 resident scientists,
including a growing community of post-doctoral associates, Center Fellows, and Researchers, and has approximately 25 administrative, scientific computing
and informatics staff.
