The Department of Mathematics at The University of Arizona seeks highly qualified and experienced candidates for the position of instructor. The primary role of the instructor is to create an engaging and meaningful learning experience for students in courses at the level of calculus and below. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to providing high quality mathematics instruction, and who will bring enthusiasm and expertise to this endeavor. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with other instructors to contribute to, and to be part of, an innovative teaching and learning environment. We are able to offer varied FTE depending on the needs of our program and the incumbent. All positions are in-person at the University of Arizona main campus in Tucson.

Although this is a one year appointment, the Department of Mathematics provides opportunities for reappointment, salary increases, and promotions based on performance, department need, and funding. This is an academic-year, non-tenure track teaching appointment.

The rate of pay for this position is $45,000 annually and will be prorated by an FTE between .50 - 1.00.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibility is to teach in-person courses at the level of first-semester calculus and below, as needed by the department. This includes courses such as college algebra, pre-calculus, introductory statistics, and business calculus.
  • Instructors are also expected to participate in various departmental activities, such as tutoring and mentoring programs. Full-time appointments usually require teaching 12 credit hours each semester.
  • Additional responsibilities include attendance at all appropriate course meetings and related professional development sessions.
  • This is a one year position, with the possibility of renewal for the following academic year. There is a possibility of teaching in the summer for additional compensation, depending on availability of classes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics, or a Master's degree in another field and 18 units of graduate credit in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics.
  • Significant experience teaching mathematics in a university or college setting at the level of first-semester calculus and below.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience suited to teach the full range of 100-level math courses, including introductory statistics.
  • Experience teaching at the University of Arizona.
  • Experience working with University of Arizona practices and policies.
  • Experience teaching and/or designing online courses.
