We are actively looking for a Transportation Engineer - Bridge and Structures specialty to join our Walnut Creek office. The Transportation engineer manages a variety of projects - bridge and roadway, municipal, port, or rail design projects and develop plans for projects across the state, US and potentially internationally. The ideal new hire will be familiar with a variety of civil and structural engineering type projects, has permitting experience and a strong existing professional network with municipal, state DOT or regulatory agency staff. This position will be based out of our Walnut Creek (preferred), or Oakland office but can be located in Northern California.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for transportation, municipal, rail and port projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government agencies, Caltrans, as well as private clients
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design-build and design-build bridge and highway projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of Caltrans bridge design standards and policies
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify marketing opportunities, engage perspective clients, and assist with the preparation of proposal packages
  • Prepare and maintain project schedules and cost estimates

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
    • Specialty in Transportation Engineering preferred
  • 10 plus years of experience in bridge and roadway engineering, preferably in California
  • Professional Engineer licensure in CA or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation experience are preferred
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Base Salary Range

$127,200 to $168,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in California.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
