As an Area Manager you will effectively lead a functional area of our Optics manufacturing operations with a total organization size of 40+ employees and 3 shift manager direct reports. Your area will operate a minimum of 5 days a week across three 8 hour shifts, and may include a hybrid schedule with employees working across 7 days a week. You will be a hands-on manager ensuring safe, on-time delivery of high quality product to your customers (internal and external) while leading improvements in process and operational effectivity and efficiency. You will continuously seek out, foster, and spearhead improvements to all aspects of your operational area. You will develop a strong partnership with our sister factory in Berlin, Germany, to share best practices. You will engage in adoption and industrialization of new products and new processes through a strong partnership with Production and Development Engineers. This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

An Optical Fabrication Functional Area Manufacturing Manager is responsible for:

  • With minimal supervision, leading a team of shift leaders and technicians to fabricate precision optics while meeting or exceeding department and product Key Performance Indicators. These include, but are not limited to: safety; product first pass yield; on-time delivery; production lead time; labor efficiency; 5S; and workforce development and upskilling.

  • Collaborating with production engineering to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of processes within your area.

  • Working effectively with and coordinating with Area Manager peers across Optical Fabrication Manufacturing to meet goals and maintain Optics production continuity.

  • Investigating and driving systematic solutions to craftsmanship induced quality issues.

  • Maintaining alignment of individual, team, and area goals to overall company, site, factory and department objectives.

  • Developing and maintaining strategies that assure the achievement of internal and external customer requirements.

  • Establishing a coordinated and seamless 24-hour operation making yourself accessible for issue escalations at any time.

  • Anticipating resource requirements and allocating/requesting accordingly in order to meet department goals.

  • Engage in demand and supply review cycles to make area supply commitments through a thorough understanding of area equipment and staffing capacity and capability.

  • Hiring, integrating, training, developing and retaining team members to meet department challenges.

  • Coaching and mentoring your team of managers and technicians for success and growth.

  • Administrative duties of the department, including time and attendance record-keeping and performance / merit reviews.

  • Administering and enforcing company policies and procedures in a direct and consistent manner.

  • Working with Human Resources to administer employee counseling actions as required.

  • Creating, maintaining, and monitoring production schedules with clearly defined priorities in partnership with the Business Planning organization.

  • Facilitating identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives for organizational design and processes within your area and across the department.

  • Developing competencies within the department that focus on technical skills, lean continuous improvement, teambuilding, and cross-training.

  • Displaying structured systematic problem solving, innovative problem resolution, and encouraging new ideas and methods that are applied with rigorous experimentation and change control.

  • Leading by example, encouraging personal motivation in an effort to achieve world class safety and quality performance.

  • Communicating effectively at all levels of the organization, spanning ability to gain buy-in and motivate technicians to the ability to influence executives.

  • Developing and justifying annual operational budget for Area.

Education and experience
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree required. A degree in engineering or related field desired.

  • 5+ years directly or indirectly supervising hourly employees in a complex production environment (preferably in Optics manufacturing) or equivalent experience.

  • External candidates must have at least 3 years managing salaried employees.

  • Strong business and manufacturing operation acumen preferably in a high mix manufacturing environment.

  • Strong LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience - you can demonstrate a history of operational improvement through effective collaboration with your employees and across your partner organizations. Demonstrated knowledge and application of Factory Physics desirable.

  • Computer proficiency with MS Outlook 365 applications, with knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP system.

  • Familiar with ISO9001 and ISO14001. Direct working experience in an ISO certified environment desirable.

  • Prior optical coating and/or optical metrology experience desired.
