Job Description

Shared Services: Global Outreach (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

The Program Specialist-GHI is responsible for the Global Health Institute's (GHI) global education initiatives, including event management, marketing and public relations, membership services, and carrying out strategies to reach and increase the participation of targeted communities and audiences. Manages the GHI office. Performs other duties as needed.



Bachelor's degree in Business, International Relations, or health related field required. Master's degree preferred. Minimum five years of experience in project or event management, international-related experience preferred. Valid California driver's license required.

Demonstrates sensitivity to various cultures and behaves in a culturally appropriate manner. Knowledgeable of all aspects of event management from small to large public events; project management methodology; multiple phone line systems; strong customer service orientation; well informed of current world, religious, government, political, and economic matters; general global health knowledge of systems and practices and impact of globalization on cultures and people; knowledge and experience supporting executives and non-profit organizations; financial management; marketing and public relations practices; social media practices; membership management. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, including, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and databases, website management/CMS platforms, membership management programs, and eNewsletter programs; Wild Apricot, or ability to quickly learn and master this program; social media platforms; speak publicly; produce spreadsheets and reports; maintains the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects so desired goals are realized and work flow is not interrupted or delayed; independently operate and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment and systems; videoconferencing and teleconferencing set-up. Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; demonstrate interest and sensitivity in working with people from different cultural and religious backgrounds; relates and communicates collaboratively, positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; collaborate and accept direction; maintains strict confidential and a high degree of discretion and professionalism; knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous manner; communicates kindly and professionally with visitors, peers, and staff; acts as a positive resource and fosters goodwill between organizations; function at a high level as an integral member of a team. Able to perform basic accounting functions; be financially responsible; conduct financial analyses; use discretion and independent thinking to make sound decisions and judgments, even with complex problems; demonstrate outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills combined with an ability to prioritize demands and workload; work budget-minded and financially savvy; develop international programs and activities in a fast-paced environment; think critically and utilize good decision making skills; work independently with minimal supervision; share information as appropriate; manage multiple assignments effectively; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to the position.
