SH: Operating Room (Full-Time, Day Shift)-

RN First Assistant (RNFA) is Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) and performs first assistant duties as designated by standardized procedures for adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating rooms across all sites licensed under Loma Linda University Health (LLUH), e.g., University Hospital, East Campus Hospital, Surgical Hospital, Out-Patient Surgery Center, Children's Hospital. This includes, but is not limited to, using instruments/medical devices including robotic technology, provide exposure handling and/or cutting tissue, provide hemostasis, electro-cautery, suturing, and positioning of the surgical patient. Functions under the supervision of a member of the medical staff that has been granted the privilege of supervising allied health professionals through standardized procedures. Must be able to work in a high-stress environment, process information quickly, and stay calm when under pressure. Performs other duties as needed.



Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Minimum three years operating room experience required. Minimum one year experience as Registered Nurse First Assistant preferred. Prior to assisting with robotic surgery, completion of the da Vinci system didactic and practical skills training session covering the robotic system components and its proper use is required. Active California Registered Nurse license required. Certified Nurse Operating Room required. Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification required from the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association required.

Demonstrates expert competencies in perioperative nursing. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills in operating room nursing. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibits exemplary professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
