Job Summary

The National Clinician Consultation Center (NCCC) at the Department of Family & Community Medicine provides immediate, state-of-the-art HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and substance use consultation and guidance to health care providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and other health care professionals) across the country through multiple telephone and online consultation services. Its core consultation lines include:

  • HIV/AIDS Management Consultation Service: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm PST (Mon-Fri)
  • Perinatal HIV Consultation and Referral Service: 24/7
  • Hepatitis C Consultation Service: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm PST (Mon-Fri)
  • National Substance Use Warmline: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm PST (Mon-Fri)
  • Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Consultation Service (PEPline): 6:00 am - 5:00 pm PST (7d/wk)
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Consultation Service (PrEPline): 6:00 am - 5:00 pm PST (Mon-Fri)

The consultant will answer incoming calls on the PEPline, PrEPline, HIV Warmline, Hepatitis C Warmine, Substance Use Warmline and Perinatal HIV Hotline, as appropriate to their training/relevant clinical experience, to ensure timely delivery of expert clinical consultation and perform administrative/operational duties that accompany the overall work of the project (such as performing journal reviews, participating in educational and quality improvement conferences, developing NCCC clinical protocols, preparing materials to distribute to callers).

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of prior experience diagnosing and managing HIV and related conditions.
  • Prior experience with counseling skills in providing clinical advice.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document encounters accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Minimum 5 years prior experience analyzing clinical studies and including new developments and approaches into clinical practice and/or consultation to other clinical providers.
  • Demonstrated competence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership, problem identification and resolution, and teaching
  • Minimum 3 years of HIV primary care experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing complex blood borne pathogen exposures.
  • Minimum 3 years of Hepatitis C primary care experience
  • Minimum 3 years of substance use primary care experience
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, ID, or Internal Medicine
  • AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Fellowship experience

License/Certification

  • Valid MD/DO License
