Position Description

As a member of the Content group, you will join a dynamic cross-functional team composed of scientists and software engineers working to develop software and services to benefit scientists, clinicians, and patients. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with training in biology to contribute to the advancement of clinical care for oncology patients.

As an Associate Staff Curation Scientist, your role consists of investigating sources of scientific information for inclusion in QIAGEN applications and working with product and requirements owners to ensure that the information is used appropriately in our applications. To facilitate capturing this information, you will work with our internal curation groups to develop and improve our curation protocols, tools, and processes.

The primary responsibility is to work closely within a curation team to provide research necessary to grow and maintain the QIAGEN Precision Insights MarkerMine KnowledgeBase, which is used to create client reports.
This role is responsible for researching and analyzing published scientific and clinical data, communicating with other scientists and oncologists, and writing accurate content in the knowledgebase. In addition, this role will contribute to non-curation projects and initiatives.

Position Requirements

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Literature research on cancer biomarkers
  • Utilization of genomic databases and tools such as IGV, ClinVar, gnomAD, and COSMIC
  • Write accurate synopses of literature and data surrounding biomarkers and cancer drugs
  • Synthesize data into reports for cancer patients and their physicians
  • Review clinical trials
  • Work in an efficient manner within the team setting to submit reports within stated deadlines
  • Attend all weekly science meetings, as applicable
  • Assist with training of new scientists, as needed
  • Assist with development of quality assurance policies for maintaining content of knowledgebase, as needed
  • Assist in development of all clinical products, as needed
  • Participate in conference calls and other consultations with physicians and scientists to discuss their research and its applications to cancer patients, if needed

Specific Requirements:

  • Understanding of somatic alterations in cancer and their impact on disease and treatment sensitivity/resistance
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organization and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and manage time, including proven ability to use resources effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to contribute to the team morale and collaborative spirit in a positive, respectful, and consistent manner

Personal Requirements

  • PhD. in cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.
  • 5 - 8 years post-graduate experience preferred.
  • Candidate needs to be based in Redwood City, CA.

The estimated base salary range for this position is 100.000 - 140.000 USD. Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, skills, geographic location, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, we offer a total compensation package that includes annual performance bonus and generous benefits.
