JOB TITLE: HVAC Technician

Several positions are available in multiple areas covering this contract (to include the Del Rio, Laredo, and the Rio Grande Valley regions) and are contingent upon contract award (expected to be made in Feb-Mar 2024).

SUMMARY: The HVAC technician is responsible for the performing routine maintenance operations and repairs on HVAC systems and may be responsible for replacing parts on existing HVAC units and/or installation of new HVAC equipment according to contract and manufacturer's specifications. The successful technician will be able to interact and provide detailed communications with all DAWSON staff, the client, subcontractors, and/or suppliers as needed. The technician may be required to submit information related to work orders in the Contract Maintenance Management System (CMMS). He/she will also ensure safe execution of field work, and deliver quality work product as defined by DAWSON, clients, and regulatory agencies from multiple on-site locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures Performance Work Statement (PWS) is being performed per specifications at multiple locations.

  • Complete of all urgent and emergency requests for multiple locations in a timely manner, while maintaining response time requirements and client expectations.

  • Ensures adherence to all safety and quality practices and procedures while performing the performance of tasks in all work areas.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all major and minor industrial, commercial pieces of equipment related to facilities in accordance with the Manufacturer O&M requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and repair all major and minor HVAC equipment such as air handing unit (AHU), condensers, compressors, water cooling towers, chillers, boilers, circulation pump and motors. and/or systems including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic circuits.

  • Perform building (plumbing and electrical) and equipment repairs using hand tools, power tools and multiple electrical circuit troubleshooting with a volt-ohm meter.

  • Assemble components from supplied instructions or drawings and designs or fabricates simple components, assemblies, or machine modifications.

  • Perform maintenance of equipment including lubrication utilizing oil or grease pumps/guns, disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble complex components and replacement of defective electrical components or mechanical parts with supplied original manufacturer parts.

  • Join pipes or tubing to equipment and/or to fuel, water, or refrigerant source to form complete circuit.

  • Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks, either by using a pressure gauge or soapy water solution.

  • Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment with electrician's hand tools according to wiring diagrams.

  • Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.

  • Document/log all freon IAW Fed, State and local EPA regulations.

  • Sources and picks up ordered parts or supplies and restocks parts or supplies.

  • Assists in completion and close out of all preventive and corrective maintenance work orders and provides all required deliverables by submitting summary and/or Quality Control reports.

  • May need to assist with preparation of written reports and other documents as necessary.

  • Determine causes and make recommendations for appropriate corrective and/or preventive measures when necessary.

  • Promote safe and secure work areas by preventing hazardous conditions, property damage, and maintaining security on-site.

  • Safely operate vehicles and small equipment such as pickup trucks, forklifts, etc.

  • Travel between site locations within the Area of Responsibility as necessary.

  • Assists in training and coaching other technicians.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Based on experience, may supervise more junior level technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • At least one year of related experience and/or training as a technician in HVAC and mechanical systems.

  • Possession of a current trade certification in either HVAC or mechanical systems is highly desired.

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial HVAC systems.

  • Possess basic knowledge on water test analysis in open and closed system.

  • Must be able to accurately interpret prints, schematics, and manufacturer's technical documents.

  • Current 30-hour OSHA preferred.

  • Basic computer skills are required, to include competency with the standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Knowledge of, and the ability to skillfully use common hand and power tools.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Capability of adapting to changing situations and workloads daily, to meet the requirement of the contract/PWS.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and the ability to use resources at hand to fix problems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Current or former favorable experience working on a Federal Government installation is preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified
