MED-ZSFG-AIDS

Part Time

76203BR

Job Summary

Works on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

The Data Analyst will be an integral member of a dynamic, collaborative research team with a diverse research portfolio focused on investigating the relationship between food insecurity and health, and designing and evaluating interventions to improve food insecurity in populations with or at risk for chronic illness, in both domestic and international settings. To achieve these goals, this team works closely with researchers based in institutions across the US and internationally, in addition to several community nonprofits and public organizations. The Data Analyst will contribute to conducting a range of intermediate analytic and coordination activities that require some prior scientific training and related experience.

The Data Analyst will use research professional skills for multiple areas of inquiry, displaying intermediate understanding of statistical analyses and research software programming techniques. The Data Analyst will be the analyst for two randomized trials of food security interventions, one among adults with type 2 diabetes in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the other among adults living with HIV in the Dominican Republic. In this role, they will conduct data management and analysis with a moderate degree of independence, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions under the guidance of senior statistical experts.

  • Content areas will primarily cover quantitative data management and analysis, which requires prior training and knowledge. They may also contribute to qualitative analysis as needed. They should have both academic and some job-related experience working in Stata, R, or similar software to accomplish data management and analytic tasks.
  • The Data Analyst will implement pre-analysis preparation of data, including data cleaning, coding, and development of scales and testing of internal reliability.
  • The Data Analyst should be moderately familiar with advanced statistical procedures used to work with multivariable and longitudinal data for both observational and intervention studies (e.g., RCTs) and be prepared to further develop these on the job. The Data Analyst should be able and willing to take an active role in discussions of the pros and cons of these various strategies in a collaborative environment, considering both academic rigor and real-world analytic needs, and contribute to recommendations for statistical approaches.
  • For all analyses, the Data Analyst will contribute to the interpretation of study results and develop recommendations based on study findings in collaboration with research team members. The individual will also make independent contributions at an intermediate level to writing both grants and manuscripts for publication.
  • The Data Analyst will also contribute to some study coordination and administration tasks, including contributing to progress reports, clinical trials registration updates, and identifying problems.
  • The Data Analyst will interface with academic and/or community research partners around data-related issues and topics, including with study partners in the Dominican Republic which will require professional Spanish language proficiency. This position may include periodic travel to international study sites, as needed. Thus, in addition to the skills required for the analytic tasks, strong interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative nature are needed. The Data Analyst will be expected to exercise independent judgement to make decisions in areas that fall within standard guidelines and practices. Finally, they should be interested in working to improve the health of populations experiencing social and economic marginalization and/or health equity.
