Position Overview

Kiefner and Associates, Inc., an Aegeus company, is a well-established engineering consultancy with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Kiefner provides the industry with engineering services focused on safety and reliability.

We offer a broad range of consulting services including fitness for service assessments, failure analysis and welding, external loading analysis and training workshops.

Position Overview

The Principal Engineer for Welding Engineering, Fitness for Service, and Materials Engineering (Doer-Seller) is a pivotal role within Kiefner and Associates, Inc. The role encompasses welding engineering expertise, fitness for service assessments, engineering critical assessments, fatigue analysis, and materials lab analysis. With a primary focus on technical excellence, this position balances responsibilities across project execution, proposal refinement, and business development, embodying the spirit of a true doer and seller.

The main duties include:

Technical Expertise and Projects (~65%)

    Apply profound welding engineering knowledge and skills to drive welding-related projects, adhering rigorously to industry standards and stringent safety protocols.
  • Conduct meticulous fitness for service assessments, engineering critical assessments, fatigue analysis, and materials lab analysis, employing cutting-edge equipment and methodologies.

Proposal Writing and Reviews, Business Development (~35%)

  • Articulate technically comprehensive, persuasive proposals for welding engineering, fitness for service, engineering critical assessments, fatigue analysis, and materials engineering projects, accentuating the depth and value of our services.
  • Diligently review and enhance proposals, aligning them meticulously with project requirements, industry benchmarks, and client expectations, epitomizing our unwavering commitment to exceptional service delivery.
  • Engage closely with the proposal team, refining complex technical information into accessible, compelling narratives, ensuring our proposals stand out in a competitive landscape.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Collaborate seamlessly with multifaceted, cross-functional teams, amalgamating welding, fitness for service, and materials engineering solutions into comprehensive engineering projects, nurturing an inclusive, harmonious work milieu.

Mentoring and Development

  • Assume the mantle of a mentor to junior and less knowledgeable employees, offering strategic guidance, constructive feedback, and tailored professional development opportunities to fuel their growth within the organization.

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • API-510, API-570, and/or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.
  • The successful candidate will have 7-10 years of experience in a related filed.
  • Proficient in welding engineering principles, fitness for service assessments, engineering critical assessments, fatigue analysis, and materials lab analysis.*
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of business development in a consulting environment.*
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both technical and non-technical.*
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritizing effectively.*
  • Proficiency in proposal writing and reviewing, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Certificates and Licenses Required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred.
