Job Description

MWH Constructors, a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is seeking a Regional Leader to head operations throughout California. This role will be responsible for overall management direction for existing projects while also developing and guiding new business opportunities throughout the California region. This individual will make decisions and recommendations that can greatly affect profitability of regional operations and will take accountability for providing leadership, strategy, and direction with primary responsibility for sustained growth. They will assess existing segment service offerings, make recommendations to affect significant promotion and growth, and otherwise elevate operations, client contact, and relationship development to enable the successful growth of business throughout California.

Essential Functions

Operations:

  • Establish objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards for operations in California, within the boundaries of corporate policy.
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of directors and managers throughout the territory to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget
  • Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Monitor financial aspects of contracts; e.g. fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc. Work with District Managers/Directors and Project Managers to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with clients.
  • Ensure that all projects executed by staff incorporate the project planning techniques prescribed by the management administration plan. Provide appropriate input and review as required.
  • Be accountable for ensuring projects are staffed with the appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives within Company profit model.
  • Coordinate cross functional issues at the operation level.
  • Be an integral part of the risk management process and reviews.
  • Work closely with all members of the Constructors leadership team, including all support functions (Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, etc.).
  • Ensure all employees follow safe work practices and use company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

Business Development:

  • Partner with internal MWH staff in support of business development, client relations, marketing, pursuit and project bid activities.
  • Grow backlog across the California market sectors we serve; initiate, develop and maintain liaison with clients to develop relationships and win new work.
  • Selectively participate in marketing campaigns, recruiting efforts, client meetings, project delivery efforts, project recovery efforts and internal strategy discussions.
  • Assist in identifying and positioning for new business opportunities; screen and facilitate sales opportunities and growth through research, relationships, calls, tradeshows/conferences, and presentations.

  • Operate as a key member of strategic pursuit teams by participating in capture and campaign activities, writing and editing proposal and SOQ content, and coaching project interview teams.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related degree.
  • 20+ years' experience, knowledge and demonstrated success in program/construction management experience with large and small scale projects including all delivery methods in the U.S.
  • Background in water/wastewaster treatment plant construction.
  • Proven history of successfully managing a variety of types of project delivery methods including: self-perform, hard bid, CMAR, design build, progressive design build, etc.
  • Client facing experience developing new business for water/wastewater projects.
  • Ability to successfully manage CRM system tracking multiple new business opportunities and clients.
  • Results-oriented professional with proven ability to develop effective strategies, set target goals, and execute plans to meet financial and organization objectives.
  • Understanding of how to mitigate commercial risk to enhance opportunities for successful business and project performance.
  • Must have integrity and strong sense of ethical standards with a reputation of conducting business fairly and honestly.
  • Strong executive presence and personnel management skills with the ability to set direction, align and motivate others to achieve excellence.
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills with exceptional interpersonal skills at all levels.
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral; will be required to conduct presentations.
  • Effective computer skills including project management, spreadsheets, Prolog, and presentation software.
  • A strong record of safety and a commitment to the value of safety measures.

Compensation

  • The anticipated base salary range for this position is $270,000-350,000/yr. depending on previous experience.
