Job Description

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Laboratory Medical Director to support our government customer located in San Diego, CA. This is a part time position with approximately 20 hours a week.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete command and directorate training and medical exams, vaccinations, and blood work as required by assigned job duties.
  • Submit recommended changes to protocols and research SOPs, to appropriate GS or military personnel as needed.
  • Provide technical and editorial support and assist with oversight of all correspondence, logistics, facilities and the central filing system for OID research efforts at NHRC
  • Assist with recording the status and location of all documents and maintaining the integrity and security of all documents in the appropriate database.
  • Support surveillance of infectious diseases that affect DoD personnel in coordination with federal agencies, local governments, research organizations, and universities at locations around the world.
  • Provide operational support, to include analytical evaluations and prospective clinical evaluations, for diagnostic evaluations, clinical studies, and/or clinical trials sponsored by Federal Agencies or private companies.
  • Provide rapid assessment, which may require deployment/TAD travel outside of the local 50 mile radius, in cases of national emergency or infectious disease outbreaks, as they occur and provide appropriate personnel and response task forces with information that can be used to develop effective short term and long term solutions.
  • Provide support to the USN and DoD in the case of a pandemic or otherwise large-scale health event where NHRC's resources can be leveraged.
  • Assist with supporting efforts across the full research project cycle, including, but not limited to: reviewing relevant literature; project conceptualization; proposal development and submission; project documentation and compliance (e.g., IRB protocol, data-sharing agreements, survey approval, etc.); data collection; data management; data analysis; presentation of results; and preparation of manuscripts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Doctorate of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, or Physical Medicine with :
    • Licensed to practice in the jurisdiction where the laboratory is located (if required), and have one of the following:
      • Certification in anatomic or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, OR possess qualifications equivalent to those required for the certification OR
      • Have at least one year of laboratory training during residency/fellowship OR
      • Have at least two years of experience supervising high complexity testing.
    • Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution AND have current certification by a board approved HHS.
  • Must have a valid US Passport.
  • Must be able to be enrolled in BPRP program.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of programs to include Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of or previous experience working with the Military.
  • Strong infectious disease/pathology background.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a Tier 3 background check.
