Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Hardware Engineer II will have a minimum of 3+ years of electronic circuits and systems design, integration and testing experience. Knowledge of RF systems or motor drives and controls is desirable. Experience with the use of test equipment, such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, DMMs, and signal generators. Knowledge of project engineering methods and troubleshooting techniques for electronic circuitry. Knowledge of test report and procedure generation. Familiar with one or more of the following: OrCAD, MATLAB, LabView, and/or VHDL.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Must have training with one or more of the following:

  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • RF Circuit Design
  • Analog Circuit Design
  • Digital Electronics Design
  • FPGA Design
  • Algorithm Development (Pattern Recognition and Object Tracking)

Requires strong oral/written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Advanced troubleshooting skills required. Will be required to work independently and with interdepartmental teams. Will be required to assist in the design and development of electronic systems. Will be required to write or assist in the development of test plans and test procedures. Will be required to assist in the automation of relevant test procedures and/or design and development of test fixtures. Will be required to assist in lab and field tests of electronic systems. Familiarity with AS9100 is desirable. US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain a DoD Security Clearance is a plus. May be required to travel occasionally.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S.E.E from a four-year college or university or equivalent; and 3+ years related experience and/or training. Masters in Electrical engineering related field or an MBA is considered a plus. Experience and training in the Military/Aerospace Industry and ability to obtain DoD security clearance desirable. Professional and/or technical certifications from accredited educational and vocational institutions desired.

INTERACTIONS

Needs to be open-minded. Required to be a team player, cooperating with colleagues as required. Work may be independent, but will have interactions with fellow engineers and members from other departments, customers, vendors and corporate management. Should be capable to work individually and independently and under time pressure and lack of resources. Provides technical guidance and assistance to lower level engineers and electronics technicians.

Personal computer. Telephone. Electronics lab equipment and tools. Calculator. Copier.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move/lift objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move/lift objects.

May involve some lifting. Involves sitting at desk and reading computer screen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, reach or walk. This position requires that the employee be able to hear and speak clearly.

Must keep current with engineering field. Should be able to perform field support if required. Travel is occasionally required. Relatively long travel trips may be required from time to time. Extended hours are occasionally required to meet job requirements. Accountability to established schedules and/or time pressures required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Mainly office environment but occasionally working on the shop floor, visiting vendors or conducting repairs or tests in the field.

Work usually performed in air-conditioned office environment. Some work will occasionally be performed in the shop. Shop environment contains hazardous materials, dust, moving equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and metal chips from cutting, milling, drilling and turning operations. Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. Must have the ability to be flexible and deal with changing conditions as required.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $77,300 - $128,800

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus and modern algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Develops and adapts to new research principles and techniques for application to product development. Determines nature and scope of testing necessary to meet project requirements. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
