CNC Programmer

What does the job involve?

Summary: Coordinates with users and superiors to develop code, test, and flowchart application programs and implement required application/maintenance programs for CNC machines per established department standards. Develops and implements running program code that links as necessary to other applications. Develops documentation to satisfy the needs of the user and operations. Continues to improve their knowledge and understanding of techniques and applications of the related software and hardware.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Use MasterCAM to generate programs for mills, lathes, lasers, and waterjets
  • Assist CNC operator with setup and identifying proper cutting tools
  • Analyze program specifications for completeness and conformance to standards
  • Develop accurate and efficient program code per specifications, within schedule, with a minimum of supervision
  • Develop thorough documentation for users and operations personnel and maintain documentation as changes occur
  • Maintain and continue to improve their knowledge of languages, coding techniques and operational requirements
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures
  • Other duties with the work as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma with some college preferred (with focus in Engineering or Programming). Experience as a CNC Operator preferred. Minimum three years of experience in generating CNC Programs using latest release of Mastercam software with proficiency in the related programming and job control languages utilized in the department.
  • Ability to create CNC programs for 3-axis CNC mills, CNC Lathe, 5-axis Laser cutting equipment, and Waterjet cutting equipment.
  • Must be able to take the assigned task from start to finish by using an efficient method of machining various components with complex contours.
  • Must be able to create appropriate CNC program for various materials such as Aluminum, Titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, brass, copper, composite, and steel while applying correct setting for cutting tool, feed, and speed.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Must have excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Ability to interact with employees of all levels and cultural backgrounds. Ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, etc. Ability to prepare presentations and speak / present material to large groups of employees.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to solve problems involving many variables in various situations.
  • Maintain and update job tracker with incoming CNC Programming work orders request as well as completed tasks. Ability to prioritize the urgent CNC assignments, report accurately the ECD dates and be able to provide fabrication with on time delivery.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must have the ability to handle many customers with a variety of requests. Must be able to effectively multi-task and quickly change from one task to the next and back. Must be a detail orientated, self-administrator able to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Tools used:

  • Personal computer and CNC machines.
  • Mastercam software applications.
  • MS Office Software such as Excel, Word, etc.

ITAR Compliance:
